does any sitter do extended stays in the home?

I need to leave Spokane for about 2 months to tend to a dying family member. I have 2 cockapoo/shitzu 's, brother and sister, 4 years old. I would like for some trusted person to come into my home and either stay, or come by frequently, to tend to my pups. I'm thinking more of a flat rate of pay for the extended care, rather than a daily rate. Thanks for your help. Pam

Is your question more of a stay request? If so, submit stay requests for as many sitters as possible saying exactly what you've said here and they will tell you yes or no. This is more of a forum.

If you are asking out of curiosity to see whether or not this is doable in general, I would say, yes. You are asking for a traveling sitter and there are people who do that. There are also sitters who take on long term stays. In terms of a flat rate, there could be someone who is willing to accommodate this, however, they would still need to create the stay on a per night basis. There is no way to offer a flat rate technically on Rover. For instance if you want to pay $500, your sitter would need to modify their nightly rate so that the total added up to $500. If their rate was 25/night, they would need to change their fee to 8.33/night which is 499.

Hope this helps.

Hi Pam,

There will undoubtedly be sitters in your area available for long term stays - you'll want to search your local listing for travelling sitters and message a few with your situation. However, you may have difficulty finding someone who will give you a significant discount beyond their normal nightly rate (or long-term stay rate, if they have one set). Many Rover sitters do this full time - they don't have another source of income beyond what they make providing pet care. Having a 2 month long job, while great for some guaranteed income, will significantly limit the other (full rate) jobs they would be available to take during that time. If they're relying on this income to pay their own bills, they won't be able to give you much of a discount if sitting for you will prevent them from taking other jobs. I understand it's a tough situation (and two months of full time pet care is definitely not cheap), but unfortunately, those who pet sit full time are going to be more likely to need to charge their full rate to pay their bills, and those who do it for supplemental income may have more limited availability.

I certainly don't want to discourage you from trying. You may be able to reach a deal with someone that is agreeable to both parties, and I hope that you do, but I just want to prepare you for the alternative that it may be very difficult to find someone to provide the care you need at the price you want.
