What if the dog I'm sitting needs to be put to sleep? Should I still charge the client for the intended stay?

The dog was very elderly and needed to be put to sleep (with the owner's permission). I hadn't even stayed over one night when this took place, but was meant to watch the dog for almost 1 month. Should I still charge for the planned dates?

I wouldn't charge for the remaining planned dates. If this ever happened to me, I would just charge for the first day and offer a full refund of the remaining days - regardless of my refund policy (which is strict); in a case of a dog's death, I feel that charging for unused time is adding insult to injury. Your calendar will open back up for any new clients to book.

I agree, it would be one thing if they cancelled, but their dog died. That's obviously out of their hands, but also a hard time already.
