I agree with what Hillary said. We are moving into the period where people are making holiday reservations so you want to make sure your profile is easy to read and eye catching. I would make your profile picture the one of you holding your dog. I would trim down the section on When your dog stays with Alyssa and just mention the basics of what will happen when you care for the client.

Read profiles and check rates of other sitters in your area. This will give you an idea of what to say and also show you what the average rates are in your area. Many sitters set their prices $3-5 lower than the average until they get a few clients, then raise them a little.

I will say that many Rover clients are looking for boarding services and not necessarily house sitting, so that may limit the number of people that contact you. Don't let that stop you. Also, mention specific first aid or CPR qualifications you may have.

And be patient. It does take time to get your first client, but they will come! Read everything you can on the Rover website about advertising and marketing your services. Good luck!

Hi, Alyssa! Welcome to Rover! It does take time to receive your first client. I noticed that your profile does not have a Rover 101 completion badge. I would suggest taking the Rover 101 course, as the badges help in your search ranking. Plus, once completed, you can use the code FREE100 in the Rover store to receive 100 free business cards! You can use these to hang on community bulletin boards (such as at dog parks, pet stores, or even places like Starbucks) and share them with friends/family/past non-Rover clients to hand out as a referral. You can also consider sharing your profile on sites like Facebook, Craigslist, and Nextdoor. As a new sitter, you should get a boost in the rankings initially to help you get started. There are a lot of factors that play into getting clients, though. These include how many other sitters are in your immediate area, the demand for the services you provide, your availability, and even the timing. Right now, I believe that a lot of sitters are experiencing a lull in requests, as it is back-to-school time, so less people are traveling. I think that word of mouth is key, so if you have others that can brag about you and attest to your responsibility and ability to care for their pets, you should be able to get going from there. Once you receive your first inquiry, make sure you respond in a timely fashion. After you get your first Verified Stay with a great review, I think you will have an increase in requests. You may want to slim down your profile, as it is quite wordy. I don't know that clients are going to be willing to read through the entire thing. I would also suggest reaching out to past non-Rover clients or neighbors/family who can attest to your ability to care for pets by sending them a link to write you a review. Even though it won't be from a Rover client, I think having others' testimonies about your skills would help. Good luck!

I have a facebook page for my 'business'. It links to my rover page and includes my discount code. Works well, even have paid for them to advertise certain posts. Relatively little if any investment, unless successful.
