what if my pet destroys something in the sitters house?

pet destroying things

Comments

If you notified the sitter your pet has a tendency to destroy certain items...I believe that is fair warning and is their responsibility to take preventative measures. If no warning was given do take note that Rover doesn't cover damages for sitters and it may be a nice gesture to offer assistance.

We beat you with wet noodles!

All joking aside... I am out 5 sets of blinds, a ceramic fairy candle holder, a roll of paper towels, a rubber door stopper, and my basement door has to be replaced(the dog locked me out! serious as a hear attack!) it had to be kicked in, no other way in the house, my phone and keys were inside... i just took the trash out!

The owner who's dog ate the blinds offered to replace them... but I didn't accept as I was going to remove them anyway and add curtains because they are easier to wash.

The owner of the dog that locked me out just laughed, made no attempt to apologize or compensate. Such is life :/

But it's part of the job. you deal with it or don't. It is our responsibility to to make our homes dog friendly, and to know when a dog needs better segregation or kenneling when left alone.

First of all... it's very nice of you to care about that. As I sitter I thank you very much!

Pet Owners are under no obligation to compensate Sitters for destruction. That being said, if you know your pet did some damage that is outside the realm of what a Sitter should expect as being part and parcel with boarding dogs, then as a common courtesy offering to pay half is what I'd find acceptable as a Sitter.

Example: My carpet is basically ruined now that I board dogs. There was one set of dogs in particular that caused the damage but I couldn't really ask for compensation because I knew what I was getting into when I started Rover. No matter how much I clean it will never be the same. I spent over $200 on nice area rugs that I now use when I have human guests so that the stains are not so noticeable.

However.... a dog I was sitting BOLTED through my screen door when his people came to pick him up. They are paying for half the door but paying someone to install it is on me because that is the cost of doing business.

FYI: Rover's insurance policy does not cover any kind of physical damage. Only medical.
