How do I know if the dog walker showed up?

If it is dog walking, how will I know if the walker showed up? Do you always have to pay in advance? I have always paid my dog walkers the day of the job.

I paid a walker and she did not walk my dog. I was at home all day on Monday and she pretended to have walked my dog. She even blatantly lied about it. She missed a number of days and took payments!! She is listed on ROVER!! Be careful- her name is FELICIA P .

I would highly recommend having a meet and greet with your walker to determine if they are the best person for you and your dog. It also gives both of you a chance to ask and answer any questions, such as what could be proof that they actually performed the walk. It's something that you and the walker can determine, whether it's a picture, a note, or a text message.

I haven't had any walking requests through Rover, but I have had some through a local company I work with. They have a report card that we leave the client after every stay, with check boxes for pee, poop, play, treats, meds, etc. and a place for any notes. We also put the date and time on the report card. If you have a security system and the walker has to enter the code to access the house, that would also be proof that they were there.

I like the report card...I wish Rover would adopt that!

I think a report card is in the works, with a release date later this year

I'm a dog walker, and I always take pics during the walk, and write a note for the client when I return. Sometimes, there's not much to say, other times I'll note an out-of-ordinary behavior like "I didn't know Rover didn't like cats until we saw one today, or is it just your neighbors cat he doesn't like?" I also let the client know if it seemed like their dog had any "pooping problems", because either they've noticed that before I arrived, and it could be either from new food/ medication, or perhaps a health issue that they are monitoring. Sometimes, a walk seems to rev up a dog, rather than relaxing them, and I'll note that too. I always leave notes from my visits, whether it's walking, drop-in visits, or over night stays. You might want to request your walker to do the same, as well as taking pics during the walk.

That's how I do also plus the owners love getting pictures and updates

pictures when I arrive and throughout the walk. Owners love seeing their pets happy. Communication is the key really.

While all payments are made in advance to Rover, payment to the sitter or walker is held for 48 hours. So if there are any problems or questions, they can be resolved. Some walkers will text a photo of the dog to the owner during the walk as proof they are doing the job. However, the most important thing if the process you go through selecting a dog walker. After reading their profile and customer reviews, select a few and have a Meet & Greet to discuss what you expect and what the walker will provide. When the M&G is over, you should have a good sense of their work ethic, trustworthiness, etc.

set a treat in front of your dog for them to give the dog when they enter your house.

GREAT idea/BEST answer. If the treat is somewhere the dog can't get to it and then it's gone when the Owner gets home that is concrete evidence the Walker was there.

I meant to say in front of the door.

I kinda figured that's what you meant. LOL~!!

A neighbor dog or cat could eat it, even a bird could get it. Leave the treats inside, in a place nobody but people can reach. You can ask them to leave the doo bags on top of the trash can. No one is likely to steal that. lol

Love it! Thanks for the idea

I have an app that tracks my walk and shows the map with the start and end times, and I send that to my clients and they LOVE it. I wish it tracked poo and pee but I love the report card idea!

what ap do you use?

It's called pupWalker and it's free to download. I also simultaneously run another app called resqwalk and it donates the miles I walk to shelters of my choice

that's awesome. You rock.

For all pet sitting services I provide I offer my clients the option of having me send them text messages and photo/video updates during the sit. That way they can see for themselves what their pet is doing and it also provides proof that I am there.

During the Meet & Greet, I always ask the client how often they would like updates! Some really like getting a text message every time I do a drop in visit or take their pup for a walk, and some like occasional updates. I always include pictures throughout the dates booked as well so the client can see the fun that their pup is having and be reassured that they are being well taken care of.

I don't know how she got away with that. I am a dog walker with Rover and when I am ready to start the walk you have to do a Rover Card. This card tracks you by GPS and show a map as to where you have been along with the miles, and times. Then you have to take pictures of the dog and then do a Rover Card to finish up. So the customer should know everything you are doing with there dogs. You should always do a Meet and Greet with the walker before you hire them.

I’m sure you didn’t notice, but this question and the other answers are from 2016. A lot has changed with Rover since then. They didn’t have the Rover Cards when the question was asked.

Thank you Krystal for bring that to my attention. I didn't know that was from 2016.

I am not currently a dog walker, even though I offer that service. I was always under the impression that there was a way the walker had to "check in" and "check out" when walking the dog. Am I wrong?
