Late pickup fees?

I've asked this before, but looking for more experiences on extra hours charges. I've been doing Rover for a year now and am fine tuning my charges. I have owners that are flying and their pickup drop off times are varying quite a bit. I have discovered that You need to know all charges before you confirm the booking. I am talking about extra hours, not an extra day charge. I've decided that if An owner goes past a couple of hours of their 24hr rate, I am asking $2hr more. So 5 hours overstay would be $10, 10hour overstay would be $20. Wanted to know what other people are doing. I live in the SFBay area so buisness is steady and I live close to Oakland airport so that is my client base. I've also asked Rover if this can be on the booking page so the owners can select how many extra hours they need up front.

I’ve been told if they are 2-8 hours late, charge 50% of your daily rate. If they are more than 8 hours late, charge your daily rate

I always tell prospective clients about the charges at the M&G. I explain that the Rover charge is for 24 hours and if there is more than a few hours difference between drop off and pickup time I will be charging a daycare fee dependent on the amount of time. We determine approximate times and then I will edit the stay charges if needed before booking. Everyone has agreed to the extra charges, and I've even had a few clients change their times to eliminate the extra charge.

Like Cari, I also ask for dropoff and pickup times at the M&G or during the request phase for repeat customers. It is done before the customer has paid. I allow some leeway (a couple of hours), after which the customer will pay a pro rata daycare fee. If the dog has been there more than eight hours, then a full day's charge would be added to the booking request. I am not going to bill by the hour. It is way too depressing to think how little we make on a per-hour basis. You pay more for parking meters here!

I strongly agree with this and should be fixed by Rover. When leaving a hotel or even a Dog sitting location they expect a certain departure window time otherwise there is extra billing. I have personally experienced multiple times where the client stated pickup would be 5pm and ended up being 9 10 or 11 pm at night. And while things do happen like missed flights etc its not fair to expect sitters to put there lives on hold to accommodate those that are unable to adhere to the agreed upon pickup window.

I have after hours pricing listed on my profile. If the dropoff is before 8am, or the pickup is after 8pm, it's an additional $20. Since it's listed on my profile, I have never had anyone raise any questions when I tell them I've edited the price.

With that said, I don't think it's ever ok to charge when the additional pricing isn't listed on your profile, but sounds like you got it all figured out!

Just rebooked a client with extra fees. She was very understanding. Hopefully Rover will make it part of the owners booking request so it will be upfront and easier. I'm learning now to really clarify drop off pickup times and will start adding agreed upon times as a note to client at time of booking so it is in writing.

Boy, wish I would have read this months ago. This week’s client basically got an extra of free boarding. Drop off was 7:45 am on Friday and they picked up at 8;45 pm Sunday night. I am going to start charging for anything over a 24 hour period. This thread was very helpful.

I had an owner leave their dog with me for daycare everyday this week. Each day the pick up time was a little bit later with poor communication. Yesterday she was an hour late causing us to miss our dinner reservations. I clearly explained at the beginning that for daycare I can accomodate for up to 9 hours. Anything over that would be the boarding fee which is $6 more. However she picked up her dog and I believe she won't pay the late fee either especially since we will no longer be working together because our dogs didn't get along.

I actually disagree on this. If the owners said they were picking Fido up in advance (although maybe hours later on the same day,) I don't see a reason to charge extra. If they booked a stay picking up at 8am instead of 8pm, and had to pick up at 8pm instead, I'd still be okay with that...because if they would have booked it and needed an 8pm pick up time originally, it would have been the same price.
