Neighborhood preferences?

Hi there!

Because Rover seems to be primarily city-based, I was wondering if you've ever thought of having an option for neighborhood preference, as opposed or even in addition to how far a sitter is willing to travel.

Personally, I'm willing to travel a decent distance for a stay. But public transportation needs to be easily accessible and a blanket number of miles doesn't necessarily take that into account. If I were able to select my preferences based on neighborhoods, it might make things more efficient for sitters and owners. For example, I live in New York City, in what is considered Hamilton Heights. Now, saying I'm willing to travel 15 miles will result in requests from Yonkers and New Jersey, which are not as easy for me to get to. But it can also result in requests from Chelsea or parts of Queens, which are places I'd travel to.

I just think it would be a helpful feature to have.

Thanks!

At times, Rover representatives provide comments/questions/answers in the Q&A community. However, if you want to make a suggestion for a future enhancement for Rover to consider making, you need to email this as a request.

Thank you, Deb! Would you by any chance know the email address I'd need to send this to? I was trying to find one and posting here seemed to be the only option.

Try this one: support@rover.com I've had a problem with Rover's search function not going by zipcode since I signed up years ago. I spoke to Customer Support and I emphasized how important it was from a customer perspective. Really, what customer wants to receive hundreds of listings, most of which might be quite far from their home?

Yes! Exactly! Thank you for the address, Karen!

Good idea. This is also what I find so helpful about the "Update when I move the map" checkbox over the map area. Although it won't explicitly tell you about public transportation options to various sitters, if you roughly know what streets or areas the public transit runs, it will help narrow your search. I usually look where someone lives compared to the airport or wherever I'm going to see if they're on the way or not.
