I also have a place with a fenced in backyard for having animals visit my home as well. Consistency is everything with dogs! I am loving and firm. I get to know what is acceptable behavior of the animal according to their parents, and reinforce this training while they are away. If the dog needs cuddles, quiet and down time, then lets get some comfy blankets and cuddle up with a book! If they need to walk / run a lot we can go on urban hikes or to the dog park. If an animal is visiting my home I make sure its completely baby proofed, and owners re more than welcome to inspect my space in advance or on arrival!
