Britain’s Favourite Dogs 2019

The country has spoken: the Staffie was officially named the nation’s top breed of the year on ITV’s Top 100 Dogs Live 2019. Presenters Sara Cox and Ben Fogle made the announcement at the end of the 2.5 hour programme which counted down Britain’s 100 favourite dogs.

The nation’s 100 favourite dogs were determined by a poll of 10,000 people prior to the show, and then the audience at home were able to vote to determine the final ranking of the top 10 breeds throughout the programme. In no particular order the top 10 dog breeds that viewers were able to vote for were:

  • Springer Spaniel
  • Labrador
  • Cocker Spaniel
  • German Shepherd
  • Cockapoo
  • Boxer
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  • Golden Retriever
  • Border Collie
  • Mixed Breed

The Staffordshire bull terrier is officially the top dog of 2019

The lovable Staffie was crowned the favourite to the delight of dog lovers around the country. Staffordshire bull terriers have a gentle nature but sadly acquired a bad reputation in the past due to irresponsible owners taking advantage of their loyalty and the fact that they’re highly trainable. It’s one of the heartbreaking reasons that they’re still the breed most likely to be found in rescue centres. They are eager to show you just how loving they can be in the right hands and as with any other dog, thoughtful breeding, training, and socialisation are vital to making them good family companions. Often nicknamed the “Nanny Dog” due to their excellent nature with children, once you meet a Staffie you’ll see why they’re the most popular dogs in the UK.
