Your Dog Is Treated As One Of My Own! Groomer too!

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Steffie. I have owned and cared very well for my many pets all my life. I started my own successful Grooming business in 2008, and still have many repeat as well as new. It’s called Steffie’s House Dog Grooming. The Salon on my property. I live above it, and also have a pottery shed in the back. It’s in the Laurelhurst Park area. Since I am self-employed, I am home to watch your pet all the time. My own dogs and Boarder/Day Care Pups stay with me wherever I am on the property. They are allowed on the furniture. They sleep with me for naps and at night. I let them out just before bed time, and they have a small pet door to safely go out to the fenced back area to potty any time they want. If I am working in the Salon, all the dogs can watch me- they hang out in the Play Pen on comfy beds and chairs, with toys, water and snax, and each other. We take breaks every 1 ½ hours, but there is a clean Wee Wee Pad, if needed, and I clean up quickly. I like to keep things clean with anti-odor enzyme, or hot water, and vinegar, or Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, or Castile Soap, depending on what’s needed. I keep fleas, ticks, and mites knocked out by using Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, and lavender. I have spot treatment for the grooming table, and shampoo with pyrethrum to rid pets of more severe pest issues. See my website for more info. I will not board sick or recently seriously injured dogs. I can administer Meds, and Vitamins, for Extra (see website)but do not give injections. All dogs have their own type of food, you provide your own dog’s food, and a few treats. Bring a harness for walking, as we go out 1 to 2 times a day. I also offer Just A Bath or Full Service Grooming for an extra charge, so your Pup goes home trim and clean! But sometimes I give a free bath, if I decide to take them to a beach. My Prices start at $10 per day, and go up to $36, for 24 hours Per Dog. Extended Stay is 5 Days Or Over, you get 10% off. Book well in advance, I fill up quickly, and take no more than 3 boarders at a time. Please make appointment for a Meet And Greet, 15 minutes, no charge. More About this sitter: If you need me to come to your house or apartment, gather your dog, harness and leash and walk him or her for one mile (about 20 blocks total) then return your dog to the safety of your home, I will, I charge $30 per hour. This includes my transportation, Rover Fees, Running/Walking/Sitting Time. Your pet will receive gentle communication and encouragement, and allowed to sniff or jog, it's up to them. I will also keep an eye out for your dogs general health condition and alert you to anything unusual that I find, such as problems with feet and/or nails, ear problems such as mites or yeast, gastrointestinal issues, joint issues. and I will check your pet for grass seeds and burrs and remove them. While I am not a veterinarian, and cannot diagnose anything beyond common knowledge, I try to keep up with what information is available on various topics and am happy to lend an ear and perhaps help steer you towards solutions that you may want to pursue in conjunction with your own veterinarians professional advise. I will be diligent in picking up waste and disposing of it properly, Also, I am a dog groomer and can bring your dog to my salon, groom them, and return them to your home, regular pricing. My grooming prices are fair, see website of Steffies House Dog Grooming Portland Oregon, online, or call/text. Why I love dog sitting There was an Airedale in the family when I was born, she helped raise us 3 'pups', and also had 15 of her own! Our family always had a dog, and when I grew up and moved away I adopted dogs from the 'pound'. We moved back and forth from Overseas alot, so there were 11 dogs, 19 cats, in my lifetime! Pets are our Center, our Home Base, our Reset Button. I have to have their calming influence, even with all the barking! Meet my pets 2 cats 2 chickens About my yard My property that the dogs are living in is fully fenced, with plastic mesh fencing, per code only 3' high in front, the sides are higher. This is enough to keep dogs in, unless they are determined to get out as in the case of 'Runners'. The fence goes to the ground but very small (4"wide or less) dogs could squeeze out between the boards on the gate Certain breeds could bite through, push through, or climb over it. This is not Doggy Jail. If you think you need a High Security place with Chain Link, this is not that place. Doggy Play Area: The front is 33x12, with half being paved, the other half is dirt/natural. The side is 6x51, plenty of space for a good game of Fetch! The area between the pottery studio and the house, back area is 32x12, with a small dirt/natural area. There is a swing-seat they can use too. Sometimes I throw soft cushions down so they can lounge in the sun. I have 3 old shopping carts in my pottery studio fixed up with cushions that they love to snooze in while I am working out there, and my dogs will double up as needed, to accommodate boarders as needed. I keep fresh bowls of water back and front, and in 2 places in the house. My experience administering medication I am if the pet is, but I don't like too big a struggle,,I can do subcutaneous shots, but have not had to give shots in muscle. I can 'Pill' cats and dogs. Currently I have a cat that has hyperthyroid meds given by smearing a dab of compounded salve in her ear 2x a day, easy! I like a printed daily schedule for other's pets though. I may charge extra for giving meds.

Our dog Daisy stayed with Stephie whilst we were away on summer vacation for a week. Stephie was kind enough to send photos during the week, and it was great to see Daisy out enjoying walks and play. We will be using Stephie again the next time Daisy is not able to join a trip. Thanks again Stephie!

Stephanie truly cares about her animals. she has always taken the time and given consideration to my dog Ginger, whether it be suggested adjustments to diet or simply holding and loving her while she waited for me to come pick her up. Stephanie is a trusted soul when it comes to pet watching. thank you Stephanie! Erik

Stephanie has been dog sitting for years and has the most welcoming home for them! She really knows dogs, and her dogs are a welcoming committee for your pet. My little puppy Dahlia was as happy as a clam there! There are beds and couches in the cutest little dog area ever, and Stephanie has the added advantage of being a groomer as well as pet sitter extraordinaire. She can send your dog home happy, spoiled and fully groomed!

I have been taking my Yorkshire Terrier and King Charles Cavalier for four years to; play, have sleepovers and get dolled-up at Stephie's - where the extra mile is given and where love and care is fostered by the special connection she has with all little creatures. We love Stephie and highly recommend your pet placed into the hands of her service. Judy T. SE Portland Or.

Information Stephanie S. would like to know about your pet

I have a small calm household, with 3 small nice dogs; a Yorkie, a Lhasa Apso, and a Mini Poodle, and 3 cats, one is 17! and 3 chickens, so I take only calm, well behaved dogs, from 5"wide up to 75#, no 'Bully Breeds', no 'Fighters' or 'Biters' or 'Crazy' dogs, and especially no 'Runners'. Dogs must be Micro-chipped, be wearing Dog Tags, be up to date on shots, and be spayed/neutered, and free of pests such as fleas, ticks, lice, ear mites, but if there is any question of that I can bathe them, that fee is added to the boarding charge. Dogs must be housebroken, but as mistakes can happen, I do leave out a weewee pad so it would be helpful if the dogs are pad trained as well,,just no incontinent dogs, and no indoor poopers. Let me know if your dog has a special 'I wanna go outside' hint. I will also want to know the brand of dog food,,you will bring enough for the stay, but I need the Brand in case I run out and have to get more, or a $4 per pound of dog food used charge will be added to the final bill (I use Brothers Complete Bison And Egg Allergy Formula, a 5-Star dry food, see Dog Food Advisor. For walks I need a harness, not just collar and leash. I like to go Off Leash, as often as possible, so I need to know your special whistle or Come/Heal commands, etc. and bring favorite Chuck It or Frisby or whatever toys too, as well as clean night time blanket, toy, bed, as you want. In the winter, small dogs need sweaters, so bring clean sweater, too. If your dog is a big shedding type dog I will have to clean/vacuum more and brush him/her twice a day, I charge $5 more per day for this,,or just pay me to do a full groom, prices vary, check my website Steffies House Dog Grooming

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks We go out 1-2 times a day. Laurelhurst Park is 2 blocks away, I put all the dogs in the car, we drive there, otherwise the cats will follow. So then I like to just let them out and they run down into the off leash bowl area, we walk around it one or 2 times. Mt Tabor has an off leash area which is really big. I take Mace to protect mine and your dogs from attack dogs. A little burn is better than getting mauled. I have only used it once, to break up a fight between a Pit Bull and a Doberman Pincer. The burn only lasted 20 minutes. The fight was over instantly, with very little bloodshed. I am wary of big dogs, and keep a beady eye on behaviors and signals when around other dogs. I try to steer clear of packs of big dogs when I can, to avoid trouble. I like to keep a light and cheery attitude, keep moving, to disperse any attitude problems. By the way,, I also watch for Eagles! It is hard to walk multiple dogs on leashes, but I have had great success taking up to 4 dogs on leash even through Portland Saturday Market and various Farmers Markets, to Childrens Parades, and walks through town and neighborhood. I love to take them to Oaks Park beach, and Kelly Point Park and Thousand Acre Dog Park for a swim too. We also love to hike Bartch Creek at Macley park in NW Portland, and Reed Canyon, anywhere we can get our collective Ya Ya's out! Your dog's sleeping arrangement With us, of course! Usually on my head!! The Yorkie has dibs on one of my sides though! The Lhasa likes the foot of the bed, Poodle is happy where ever. Rarely there is a squabble, I end them as soon as they start, no bickering allowed, everyone has to be nice! But it is nice to bring your dog's bed, clean, just in case, even though there are 8 other doggy bed areas here, sometimes they like something from home. Time I'll spend with your dog I am self-employed, and am home all the time, but for short errands, they are with me all the time; if I am grooming, then they all go to the Play Pen so they are with me. If I am working in the yard, they are there with me, and if I am in the pottery studio behind the house, they are there with me, too. Working in the office, they are by my side!
