Pawsitively perfect pet sitter!

Pet care experience

I have taken care of dogs and cats of every kind since before I can remember. I've fostered, rescued and adopted. I've provided medical care to pets of neighbors, friends, and family, as well as walked, fed, and bathed pets for roughly the last 25 years. Since 2017, alone, I've fostered and boarded hundreds of dogs, with an emphasis on rescues and strays for a local rescue. Both of our dogs are rescues and we are highly complimented on their behaviors and training. They are highly socialized and get along well with every type of dog. We've never once had a problem and we've brought well over a hundred dogs into our home. They're also gentle with the cats! With a diverse portfolio of experiences, I've handled various breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments, including dogs with aggression, dogs in training, timidity, and other aversions. From breaking up dog fights to managing dogs with specific dislikes towards kids, cats, men, or women, I've navigated through a spectrum of challenges with finesse. We've been fortunate to not have many terrible experiences, but dogs can sometimes be unpredictable. With us, you have experience. With my extensive experience and diverse skills in pet care, including training, puppies, and senior care, I believe I stand out as a reliable and experienced choice for pet owners seeking assistance with their beloved companions on Rover. An absolute must for someone leaving their family members with strangers.

Safety, trust & environment

Meet and greets are an absolute must. This is not just for my benefit but your benefit as well. This is a two-way partnership. This gives you the time to interview me and find out more about our house and how I run things as well as time for me to ask you questions about you and your pet and how you interact with your pet. Additionally, this is a very good safety precaution with the amount of fraud and crime out there. If we're not a good fit then no hard feelings. That's just the way it is sometimes and I'd rather it be that way than for us to find out the hard way. However, you'll find I'm easy to work with and will provide top notch care for your pets. With a fenced yard and dogs of our of own, there's plenty of space for your dog to play and socialize. I understand that cats love their privacy, so we have a separate pets room where they can retreat to if needed. We have gates to keep animals separate. Additionally, we have crates available. This is especially important for those dogs who do not have crates of their own, but need to be separated. For well-behaved pets, we allow them to free roam, ensuring they have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We do crate training for those that do not behave. We also do not leave dogs together and uncrated when we are not home. This presents a hazard to any dogs in our care as we would not be available to stop a fight if one happens. We also keep a regular schedule of switching dogs out and keeping them separated if the situation warrants it. Some owners may be upset with dog crates, but they can be a necessary tool. If your dog does not do well with crates, then we can keep them in a separate room or behind gates. We feel out the situation case by case. Feel free to ask questions and come to our meet and greet with suggestions. I make sure to provide regular exercise and playtime for the pets in my care. Daily exercise and toys help keep them happy and healthy. I also follow any specific dietary requirements or medications your pets may have, ensuring they receive proper nourishment and medical attention. Please feel free to include instructions with your visit. We follow them to a tee. During one of my experiences, I had the opportunity to provide round-the-clock IV care for a litter of puppies. For elderly dogs, they might have a morning and afternoon routine to tend to. Safety is a top priority, and I take precautions to create a secure environment for all animals. This includes closely monitoring interactions between pets, proper and separate introductions, and providing supervision during playtime. I make sure to keep up hazardous items and liquids, as well as have safety latches on all my cabinets. I make sure to check my house frequently for rubber bands and small household items that might be choking hazard for small pets. I don't have any plants in my house as they sometimes can be hazardous, or create allergies, to pet's health. Our counters are intentionally left without food or snacks, so if a dog jumps up. They can't get to anything they shouldn't eat. If there are any special requests or preferences, I'm always open to accommodating them to make the pets' stay as comfortable as possible. We have aides in the training of some of our pups. If you have commands that you use, then let us know. We want to reinforce what you've been teaching at home. We treat the dogs in our care as we would our own. Sometimes they even go home better trained than when they were dropped off! There's no such thing as too much detail. The more I know the better I can work with your pets. Each pet is different just as each human is different. They all have different personalities and different characteristics. Some you can leave off leash for hours. Others you can't. Some you can allow free roam. Others jump up on counters and get into trash. It's the nature of the game. I've experienced it all. I maintain open communication with pet owners. This way, they can have peace of mind and stay connected with their pets while they're away. I've even had parents want to FaceTime with their pets. Always feel free to reach out if you have any concerns.

Information SammAndtha M. would like to know about your pet

Before booking with me as a pet sitter, there are several important things to know: Check my schedule, including times and dates, and prepare to ask questions if needed. Prepare to discuss your pet's daily routine, including feeding times, exercise needs, and any specific habits or preferences they have. The more I know about your pets the better I can cater to their needs. I want to know it all. Good and the bad. If you lie to me about a dog's behavior, it makes it a lot more challenging on the dog, me, and puts stress on you as the owner. I've had owners tell me that the dogs do very well on leash and know their commands only to find out when I go take them for a walk the opposite... If your dog is an escape artist I need to know that before I let them out in my backyard. The more I know, the better the stay and the less likely there will be a problem. Trust me. I can handle it. Be sure to share important information about your pet's health, any medical conditions, allergies, and behavioral quirks that I should be aware of. If your dog is allergic to poultry and someone drops a piece of chicken on the floor by accident, I need to know that in case your dog gets to it. If your dog really doesn't get along well with other dogs, I need to know that so we don't have to break up a dog fight. Those unneutered males tend to cause the problems in this area. Finally, as I have mentioned before, I do meet and greets before every booking. I rarely waver on this. This is so that you know that I'm legit and I know that you're legit. It also gives us the chance to get to know one another and to make sure that we're a good fit for each other. By addressing these points in advance, you can ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for both your pet and me as your pet sitter. I don't usually have, or foresee having, any issues with your pets stay with me, but I like to cover my bases and ensure you are fully informed.

A typical day

As a pet sitter, I offer enjoyable activities for the dogs I care for. Some of our favorite adventures include games of fetch in the backyard, walks through scenic trails (if we're out and about), and plenty of toys to play with. I also enjoy exploring new routes around the neighborhood to keep things exciting. Every dog is unique, so I tailor our activities to their specific needs. We make every dog a part of our family. We allow our dogs on the furniture so we'll allow your dogs on the furniture (unless it is not allowed at home). We allow our dogs in bed, so the same goes there as well. Sometimes, we'll stay up late watching movies cuddling with our dogs. We'll cuddle with yours too! For those dogs that are good with people and our socialized, we do very well with them. We leave them out when we have company. We introduce them as if they're a guest staying in our home. For those dogs that need extra care, who are maybe timid or not a socialized, or have social anxieties... We cater to their needs as well. Sometimes they have to remain separate from other dogs and people. Sometimes you have to spend extra time with them. In my experience, every animal is capable of love. Some can just be a little harder to work with than others. Equipped with an arsenal of tools ranging from treats to medical supplies, leashes to harnesses to toys and crates, I ensure every pup under my care receives tailored attention and support. Recognizing individual needs such as bladder control issues, leash training, or food aggression, I adapt my approach accordingly, prioritizing positive reinforcement techniques while also being adept with tools like e-collars and prong collars when necessary. In this field, flexibility is key, and I understand that every dog is unique. I firmly believe in the importance of not adhering to a one-size-fits-all philosophy, rejecting the notion that any singular method is superior. Instead, I advocate for a holistic approach that prioritizes the well-being and happiness of both the dog and the owner. So, whether it's teaching new behaviors or addressing undesirable ones, I'm committed to providing effective, ethical, and compassionate care that fosters a pleasant relationship between pets and sitter while animals are in my care.
