Pet care experience
I have dog sat and walked neighbor's pets on and off for a few years and recently adopted a dog. As part of my high school programming, I was in the animal science pathway. As students we not only learned about the anatomy and biology of animals, but took care of them on a farm. I also have experience in taking care of cats. I'm looking for part-time work and I prefer to work on weekdays. I'm best suited to taking care of pets during the afternoon or the evening. When it comes to walking I try to make sure they're comfortable and that I have a strong grasp on the situation. I make sure that I have a dog waste bag and that the dog that I'm walking is not bothering civilians or other animals. In the event that I am watching over another pet I make sure that they have access to water and to refill their food if needed. I am patient with animals if they are having a hard time and give them the space that they need.
Reviews
Notemaker -- aka Richard -- is a responsible pet owner and has shown compassion for many animals. His rescue lab-mix was out of control when he was adopted two years ago at age 13 months. Richard, following the advice of an experience dog trainer, taught the dog to go to the bathroom outside, walk on a leash, stop chewing household items (other than toys), and become friends with the cats. This is Richard's first dog; previously, he was a frequent caretaker to an American bulldog Richard -- from 2014 to 2018 -- would take in the dog for weeks, sometimes months, at a time while the owner traveled. Richard demonstrated compassionate and quality caretaking and the dog was always excited to come to Richard's home. He even helped to escort the dog to the vet when, at age 13, he was put to sleep. Richard also has experience with cats and lives with one right now; recently, Richard was the favored person of another cat who recently died of old age. Richard was the one who stayed with the cat until the very end. He also has cared for cats on a temporary basis including one who had leukemia and needed a comfortable home until he died and two cats whose owner had a temporary housing crisis. Whether caring for dogs or cats, Richard has consistently demonstrated compassion. Richard also has extensive experience working with animals as part of the Animal Science pathway at Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, from where he graduated in 2017.

Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I give dogs and cats patience, mental stimulation with toys, and treats as a reward good behavior. I estimate how comfortable they are and make sure that they have everything they need.
Information Richard N. would like to know about your pet
I think it's important to know if the dog has any special needs that requires extra care. That way I know to give the dog more time.
A typical day
With dogs I make sure they get the exercise they need. If I'm not walking around the neighborhood I like to take my dog to either the dog park or beach. I like to bring a ball for them to catch.

Availability
Preferably I'm trying to work part time Monday through Friday. Walking dogs is therapeutic and I'm looking forward to working with each potential dog here.
