My dream (part time) job!
Pet care experience
During the height of the pandemic, I started working with a local shelter to foster dogs. About 4 days in advance, I would get alerted that I would be getting a dog with little to no information on that dog. It’s always an adventure when you foster because the dog’s background is completely unknown. I’ve had extremely timid strays, huge gentle giants, and puppies who were not housebroken. Though fostering can be extremely challenging, the bonds I’ve formed with my foster dogs made everything worth it. And by the end of it, they were all housebroken, adjusted to other humans and dogs, and less fearful of the city. Since fostering can last anywhere from 2-6 weeks, I do take breaks here and there which I love to fill with short term dog sitting. Which brings me to Rover :) A great way to still get my puppy fill without some of the challenges of fostering.
Reviews
Arlo had a return visit with Rachel and had a great time! She took great care of him and was understanding with some of his puppy tendencies. Highly recommend!
I had to go on a work trip and left Rachel with my sick pup for the weekend, and while initially wracked with guilt, I immediately felt relieved on drop off as she was so attentive to his needs. I got great updates during the weekend and when I picked him up, he looked even better than I left him! I’m so grateful for Rachel’s care and would absolutely recommend her!
Rachel is incredible! We wish we could clone her so that she's always available :) We've booked several times with her and will continue to do so!
Rachel took wonderful care of our dog and sent cute photo updates!

I feel like dogs are truly part of one’s family. Every dog I’ve fostered or dog sat had full access to my home, my furniture, and my bed. Since my apartment is small I’m always able to keep an eye on any dog I’m watching. My building is also extremely pet friendly and there are a number of dogs that live on my floor. Dogs that I watch typically get 4 walks a day with a longer walk in the afternoon. There’s also always time for play!

Information Rachel W. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your dog has any specific needs, triggers, or preferences so I can make sure to work around or incorporate those. I’d also love to know how they are on a leash and around other dogs and humans. Their comfort and safety definitely come first so please arm me with all the information to ensure they’re never in an unwanted situation.
A typical day
I love taking dogs to the parks close to me or to the Brooklyn Promenade. We’ll get a nice walk in and typically sit outside for a while as well. I love excuses to go outside so your pup would get let’s of time out of the apartment. I’m also pretty good at tug of war and fetch (the throwing part).

Availability
Since I work from home, taking care of a dog doesn’t impact my schedule much. Luckily I have a job with the flexibility to allow me to take time for playtime or long afternoon walks.
