Pet care experience
Hi! My name is Ian. Im an active 31 year old who enjoys the outdoors, alternative sports (skiing, paintball, surfing, mountain biking, etc), and spending time with friends and family. I am also a social worker who works with the severely mentally ill so you could say I have A LOT of patience. My family and I have owned dogs my whole life. I have over 22 years of experience of either owning or taking care of dogs like Golden Retrievers, most all varieties of Pitties, Airedales, Scotties, Dachshunds, Blue Heelers/Cattle Dogs, Great Pyrenees, Boxers, Chihuahuas, Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, and multiple mix breeds. Ive also spent a good portion of my life working on my grandfather's cattle farm and feel I have an appreciation for all animals both big and small. I have regularly houses-sat and dog-sat for one of my employers for the last 9 years. I am familiar with dog-training techniques using positive reinforcement and have implemented the techniques taught by Cesar Milan with my own animals and my employer's animals. I believe in the therapeutic benefits of having dogs and their unconditional love. I am reliable, honest, and open to any reasonable requests and feedback. I can also provide additional references if required. Most of all, I look forward to working with you!

Information Ian M. would like to know about your pet
The main things I would like to know about a dog before sitting them would be A) what is their temperament (chill, active, hyper, aggressive, etc.) and don't be afraid to be honest, B) do they get along with other dogs and animals in general, and C) do they behave well around children. Also do they have any aversions or fears like other dogs, bicycles, water, men/women, kids, etc. I have owned and/or worked with many breeds of dogs and each one is different. I just would like to know what makes your dog unique!
A typical day
As mentioned, I am a very active person. I enjoy hiking, going to the beach, riding my bike along the boardwalk in Mission Beach/Pacific Beach, and other outdoor activities that I would love to have the company of a four legged companion. I would also take the dog I am caring for to the dog park/beach if the owners are comfortable with it barring any health or behavioral concerns. Unless there are specific instructions from the owner, on a normal day I would wake up around 6am and take the dog for a walk or light jog before feeding them. If it is a work day for me, I will spend as much time with the dog before leaving for work to be there at 8am. I am a social worker who works in the field 90-95% of the day and have quite a bit of autonomy in regards to my schedule. I am usually done working the field between 1pm and 3pm depending on my clients' needs. When I arrive home from work, I would take the dog out immediately for short walk/playtime and then I would spend about 1-2 hours doing clinical notes which again is done at my discretion. Once my notes are complete, I usually go to the gym for about an hour. If I am dog-sitting, I will do something active like walk around Pacific Beach or go for a run on the beach before heading home for the night and providing a second feeding (if required). If it is not a work day for me, I will be out and about with the dog I am caring for. In a nutshell, if I am not at work or the gym, the dog I am looking after will be with me especially if I am going to be doing something on the active side and they are capable of keeping up. Every dog is unique in the their own way and I have a relatively flexible schedule that can be adjusted to fit the needs of most animals.
