We specialize in anxiety cases while pet parents are away from their pet loved ones. For extended periods pets will smell their owners for several days until the scent disappears. During the first several days of separation these anxious moments can usually be mitigated with personal attention from their sitter. Requiring the dog to move from where they smell your scent to another location such as a coach or bed where they can received personal hugs and relax close to the sitter usually dissipates the anxious feelings. From experience I know that over a few days these feelings can be replaced with good care, loads of affection, and frequent play. Then your pets will certainly smell and hear your return and be just as excited to see you as they would in your own home.
