Good with shy and fearful dogs.
Pet care experience
I've had dogs my whole life, starting with golden retrievers and my first dog Carmel, an extraordinarily sweet, patient dog. My first dog as an adult, Madison (GSP/Shar-pei/whoknowswhat mix), was one that I rescued from the street and he taught me a lot about how to interact with shy and fearful dogs, and just about dog behavior in general. While he always remained fearful of new people, he was a hilarious, loving dog to the select few humans he called friend. My current dog Aoife is a sweet, funny little Chihuahua mix, adopted from Oregon Humane Society. I have attended a few different basic obedience classes (Academy of Canine Behavior in Bothell, WA, and Happy-Go-Lucky here in Portland) and wholeheartedly believe in positive reinforcement only. I'm a fan of behaviorist and trainer Trish McConnell, who wrote The Other End of the Leash. I work from home, so I'm always around. While I don't have a fenced yard, Portsmouth Park is a block from my home; my dog friends say the smells are excellent and the grassy field perfect for pooping and peeing. I enjoy walks, fetch, etc. as well as some good old-fashioned belly rubs and cuddles. I have administered diabetes shots before and understand the basics. I never, ever take a dog outside without a secure leash on and do not leave dogs alone together unless they've known each other for some time and I know for certain that they get along. I definitely err on the cautious side of things. And I will always make sure to abide by you and your dog's needs around food, medication, and interaction. I'll also send you pictures and/or video, if you want!
Reviews
I have known Erin for 8 years and she has taken care of my dog many times. Erin is a dog person through and through! She is a wonderful caregiver and I can tell my dog really likes spending time with her. My dog has some separation anxiety and Erin intuitively understands that sometimes she needs some extra love and patience, and other times she needs some space to "work it out" for herself. Erin is flexible, reliable and responsive, I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone looking for a fun and loving friend for their pup!

Information Erin D. would like to know about your pet
Knowing your dog's likes and dislikes, as well as anything that scares them, is very helpful. I love pretty much all kinds of dogs, and have a special place in my heart for pitties and other big-headed goofballs.
A typical day
Walks in your neighborhood and/or nearby parks. If there's any basic training you want brushed up on or reinforced, I can help with that, too!
