While in my home, your dog is an important member of the family. I have created a safe, comfortable, and fun environment for the dogs. I generally take 3-5 dogs at a time, the perfect number for optimal socialization without it being overwhelming for them. Plenty of exercise, attention, and affection is given at your dog's home away from home.
My goal is to provide an alternative to the traditional kennels and dog boarding facilities that can make some dogs anxious, scared, or stressed. The dogs respond well to the homey atmosphere and fall right into our healthy, active routine. Your dog is encouraged to make themselves right at home and enjoy their time here.
About Amy B.:
How long have you been a dog lover? Tell us about your history with dogs.
I have been an animal lover and have owned dogs, cats, and a variety of other critters my entire life. I love my job and I can't imagine not working with animals. I have consistently volunteered at animal organizations and my educational background is Non Profit Organizational Management. I have been around many different environments involved with the rescue, care, and adoption of animals. I continue to educate myself on animal behavior and psychology, especially that of dogs. I feel extremely comfortable around a pack of dogs and I am confident in my abilities as their pack leader.
What would you like to know about a dog before sitting him or her? Do you have any breed preferences?
All sizes and breeds welcome!
I would like to know if your dog has any behavioral issues or a history of aggression. The safety of all the dogs comes first.
I also like to know your dog's activity level and/or any physical restrictions so I can create an appropriate exercise/walking schedule that is catered to their specific needs.
I would like to know if they are spayed or neutered.
Please let me know if your dog is healthy and current on shots. Tell me your dog's medical history and any past or current medical conditions, and also any medication or supplements they are taking.
I would like to know what training your dog has and/or what commands they know (come, sit, stay, etc.). Also, please let me know if you are actively working on any obedience or training exercises so I can continue working with them while you are away. I am happy to enforce whatever rules your dog must follow at home.
Please tell me if you give permission for your dog to ride in the car with me. I occasionally take the dogs on outings to the swim park or for hikes in other areas of town. If they are not allowed in the car that is just fine, and they will have plenty of fun close to the house.
Every dog is different, so tell me about your dog's unique personality and demeanor! Tell me anything you want me to know about them so I have a better understanding and so I can take care of them as best I can and provide for them a positive, fun experience.
Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?
I do have reliable transportation in case of emergency. I will have your vet's info, and I also live five minutes away from a 24 hour emergency animal hospital.
Are you comfortable administering medication?
I have administered different medication to many types of dogs and I am comfortable giving your dogs whatever medication they need.
How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?
My entire day is dedicated to the care of the dogs in my home. This is my full time job so I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to be with the dogs throughout the day. I supervise all mealtimes and playtimes, and I am engaged with the dogs always.
If you have a backyard, please describe it.
I have a smaller, very securely fenced in yard with 6' privacy fencing and gates that are always locked from the inside. There are three separate areas:
The first area is the drop off/pick up zone and it measures about 8' X 12'. This separate area provides added safety and convenience for the dogs and their parents during arrivals and departures. The patio/garden portion of the yard is a cozy place for the the dogs to hang out and enjoy the outdoors. There is a 40' X 3' dog run provided for the dogs to use, made of small gravel for comfort and easy clean up. There is an extra large dog door going out to the yard so the dogs have the freedom to go in and out on their own accord.
Where will my dog sleep?
Inside, and where they are most comfortable. They can sleep on the bed, the couches, or the many dog beds. I also have crates if that is something they prefer and are used to.
Where will you take my dog on walks? Tell me about it.
I am a big believer in walking the dogs very regularly, I spend a lot of time doing just that. Walking the dogs is the perfect way to bond with them, let them get to know the other dogs in the pack, and provide great exercise and mental stimulation.
I live on the Spring Creek Trail in Fort Collins so I will take your dog walking on the trail, or at Spring Park--a large park, great for dogs! I also live a few blocks from the dog park on Lake Street if your dog wants off-leash time! I am walking distance to Old Town and we often walk there, or around the quiet streets in my neighborhood. My location is very safe and enjoyable for walks outside. An ideal location for walking dogs of all activity levels.
