Animal lover who’s ready to help!

Pet care experience

I lost the two greatest loves of my life, my black lab, Riley, and my yellow lab, Kobi, within a year of each other. Four years later, and my heart still has not fully healed. I do not know if it ever will. There is no love quite like that of a dog. So, now having the time and the means to be able to care for the animals of working-class people or travelers, or whatever the circumstance may be, is my literal dream come true, to get all these chances to care for their furry family members while they are away. *My black lab, Riley, lived her whole life with Addison’s Disease. It’s a very rare disease in dogs. I was given the option of having her put down as a puppy, when she was first diagnosed, because the vets knew caring for such a disease would not only be costly but would also be a lot of work. Without any hesitation, I chose to care for my sweet baby Riley, and she outlived her Addisonian life expectancy by three years! I had to provide her with 2/3 of a small pill EVERY DAY. I had to make her a special diet since the pill was a steroid pill and so I had to watch her weight. And I had to take her to get a steroid shot once a month until her passing at age 11. A LOT of work went into caring for Riley, but I absolutely regret nothing and wish I could have cared for her and had her for longer. *My yellow lab, Kobi, was what I called a “medical marvel.” He had every medical issue under the sun happen to him and so he was also a lot of work to care for. He ended up having an allergy rash from all generic brands of food. So, I had to cook him chicken and green beans 5 times a week. He ended up having early signs of arthritis and so it was my job to make sure Kobi was in the best shape of his life so that his joints were not overworked by being overweight. We would walk, and even run, every single day I came home from work. He had benign bumps and lumps all over his body (despite one of which, not being benign, that ended up being the reason for his passing), but I made sure to rub him and soothe him every night before bed to ensure he was never in any pain. *A family friend “hired” me to dog sit for their two black Newfoundlands (Buzz and Houston) while they traveled. This happened sporadically for 1 full year. I put “hired” in quotes because I truly did not want their money, but since I would occasionally overnight dog-sit at their home, they insisted I be paid for my time. They were SHOCKED that I was able to walk BOTH Newfies (both around 130 lbs each) at the same time. They had a fenced in backyard and so, along with the nightly walks, we would play endlessly until it got dark. *I used to volunteer my time at a local shelter, interacting with dogs and even walking a few. This volunteer position only lasted a few weekends, as my full-time job ended up becoming very busy at that time.

It is hard to summarize all the reasons why we and our dogs love Amanda. It started from our “get acquainted” meeting, where we clearly saw her perfect blend of competence and humor, and her detailed plan for making sure our dogs were cared for should anything interfere with her ability to take care of them (of course she took perfect care of them and no backup was necessary). We were on a far and long trip for us, and we all loved seeing her daily updates and photos. We had some high-maintenance feeding stuff which she handled without missing a beat. Beyond regular playtimes, walks and runs with our dogs (and wardrobe changes for them God bless her) she tracked down the source of a weird smell in our fridge and dealt with it, emptied garbage and even washed the towels and stripped the bed (not on our to-do list but so deeply appreciated). Her love of animals is so clear to see in everything she does. She is an amazing caregiver and human. Highly recommend!!!!

Amanda was great with our two dogs (one a senior and the other a puppy)! We dropped them off for an overnight stay while we were in town visiting family and she did a really nice job of keeping us informed of how they were doing and sending pics. We'd absolutely recommend Amanda as a sitter!

Although I live in an apartment, it’s a huge complex with lots of room to roam and walk with the animals. There is even a dedicated spot at my actual complex for dogs to run and play. But if you look past the complex itself, I’m surrounded by parks and open spaces and so many different places/ways to stay active with animals. As for my actual apartment, it’s 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. I have a lot of space for just 1 person. So, I have the ability to care for animals here with ease.

Information Amanda G. would like to know about your pet

I would just like to know if your dog has any behavioral issues that I should be aware of. If you can think of anything “out of the ordinary” when it comes to your dog that you think I should know about when caring for it, please let me know. It’s better to let me know “too much” about your pup than not enough.

A typical day

I am a very active, fit person. I run every other day. I find trails, parks, etc. where I can get a run in with an incredible view. I would love to run with your dogs, if they are able! If they are unable to handle a run, I would love to go for as many walks as possible with them. As I said before, I am surrounded by parks, trails, and sidewalks everywhere. I will have no problems creating a neat, exciting, and beneficial walk for your dog and I to go on.

Right now, I work full time at a law firm in Bingham Farms, MI. However, I am one of the ones who run that law firm. So, I am able to create my own hours of when I want to go into the office and when I want to work from home. So, as long as I’m given enough of an advanced warning regarding clients and the types of animal services needed, I will be able to work around the schedule of this position as well as work around my schedule at the firm.
