Passionate and skilled about dogs!

Pet care experience

What sets me apart as a pet sitter is my deep commitment to not just caring for pets, but enhancing their well-being through specialized knowledge and skills. I'm currently working towards advanced training certifications, which reflects my dedication to continuous learning and professional development in pet care. As a service dog trainer, I have a unique understanding of canine behavior and training techniques. This experience allows me to provide structured, yet compassionate care and training to pets under my supervision. Whether it's working on obedience, behavior modification, or specific tasks, I apply these skills to help pets grow and thrive. Nutrition is another area where I bring added value. I have a strong background in pet nutrition, enabling me to make informed choices about the dietary needs of the pets I care for, if it is ever needed. This is especially important for pets with specific dietary requirements or health concerns. Puppy socialization and obedience are among my key strengths. I love working with puppies, helping them learn the ropes of social interaction, and guiding them through the critical stages of their development. My approach is always gentle, patient, and tailored to each puppy's unique personality and needs. I believe in treating every pet as if they were my own, with all the love, care, and attention they deserve. My goal is not just to be a sitter, but a positive influence in the lives of the pets I care for. No matter the service paid for, all dogs in my care will receive some play based, force free, positive only training for fun!

My experience with Alexis has been in the training area, not pet sitting. She is a very passionate trainer, who always goes above and beyond. She takes her time with understanding my issues and understanding the dog in front of her. She will send me tons of resources to help me understand and keep up with the training she provides. I love that she uses play based, reinforcement training and she is creative in tailoring the cues to what works best for our household and family. She is absolutely obsessed with learning and furthering her knowledge so I feel really confident in leaving my dog with her. She is also aware enough to know when something is out of her abilities or capabilities and she will let me know that she isn’t the best fit for the issue at this time. Absolutely love her!

Safety, trust & environment

I prioritize pet safety and comfort above all else. When caring for pets, either in my own home or in a client's home, I ensure that their environment is safe, secure, and tailored to their needs. This means removing any hazards, providing a cozy and comfortable space, and making sure they have access to fresh water and their preferred food. Building a bond with each pet is essential for me. I engage in playful activities that suit their personality and energy level, always focusing on positive reinforcement. This approach not only fosters trust but also helps in understanding their unique behaviors and needs. When it comes to training, I strictly adhere to force-free methods. This not only ensures the pet's physical well-being but also supports their mental and emotional health. By using positive reinforcement, I help pets feel confident and comfortable in my care. This approach is gentle, effective, and strengthens our bond, making their time with me a happy and stress-free experience.

A typical day

Waking up and giving an opportunity for a potty break is the first thing that happens with me. That potty break turns into the first walk of the day, a leisurely sniffari, a dog led walk where they’re allowed to sniff and explore to their hearts content. After about 25 minutes we head back home and breakfast is served. Breakfast is typically served in an interactive way: puzzle feeders and sniff mats. After breakfast, I rest dogs for about 30-45 minutes (1 hour for dogs prone to bloat) to prevent vomiting and any stomach issues. Playtime is next, which is dog centered play mixed with some fun training. By mid morning, it’s nap and settle time. Once that is over we go for another, longer sniffari and do some playtime and training outside. Or we may just settle and people watch if that’s the dog’s preference. After returning, the dog has free play alone with various toys while I get some work done. We repeat our morning routine for the afternoon and evening. With owner permission, we may go to a secure and private dog park or Sniffspot.
