answered a question How do I handle a client requesting house sitting for 1 animal whereas it's actually 7-9?

Wow, that's a lot of animals! There are take two steps you can take to ensure the pets' safety and well-being as well as a fair price for the care you'd be providing:

1) Tell the potential client that all animals in the home must be registered on their Rover profile in order to be covered by insurance during a house-sitting booking. I've had clients who didn't register a non-dog pet because they couldn't figure out how to do it. (You have to add the animal, then select cat/bird/etc. from the 'breed' dropdown menu.)

2) Give the client your rate per additional animal. Set a price in your profile by going to Services/Rates-->Rates-->More Rate Options-->Additional Dog Rate.

If they balk at either or both of these requests, I'd recommend declining the booking. There are just too many things that could go wrong.

asked a question Has anyone had a regular client freak out and cancel on them?

I'm sad. One of my favorite clients--I'd sat for them multiple times and gotten a five-star review--just cancelled a future booking. Today I did what I always do after a long sit-- washed all the sheets and towels, vacuumed and/or mopped the floors, and cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms. I said goodbye to their awesome and adorable animals and left feeling pleased that they'd come home to happy pets and a clean house after a long trip.

Instead, I got a late night text saying "Sorry we're OCD, but..." with questions about three minor issues, including why the sheets were switched on the beds. (I washed them!)

A few minutes later I got the notification -- they'd cancelled their next sit. I know this client is prone to making snap decisions (they moved house suddenly between our meet & greet and my first sit) but this stings. Has anyone else had this experience? Is there anything I can do to repair the relationship?

asked a question How do I say this is not a fit?

I had a meet & greet for a house-sit where the dogs were wonderful but the owner did several things that made me uncomfortable, including asking for lots of personal information that wasn't relevant to the work, wondering out loud if my verified stay reviews were "real," and disclosing that she gave another sitter a terrible review based on the # of photos sent during the stay rather than the care provided.

During the meet & greet I said I was interested because the dogs were SO SWEET, but after sleeping on it I just have a bad feeling about this stay. I know I can decline any stay, but does anyone have suggestions on what to tell the owner?
