answered a question Why does my dog drink a lot of water?

If it is excessive and out of the ordinary, talk to a vet. I have had two dogs with sudden excessive water drinking and both had serious medical problems that caused it. One had kidney stones. The other had cushings, a serious hormonal imbalance.

answered a question Why won't my dog stop panting?

If it is excessive and continuous you would see a vet. Excessive panting after exercise on a hot day can lad to heat stroke or other severe issues. It is also a sign of severe stress so make sure to note if something is making your dog anxious and remove that trigger or leave the situation.

answered a question Why does my dog stink?

Bath your dog to make sure its not an external first! Then you can try a diet change (talk to your vet first, the amount of oil, fat, carbs, protein can affect the way your dog smells). Check your dogs teeth! Sometimes one rotten back tooth will go noticed but it STINKS! Its also bad for their health, so check your pet!

If the smell continues see a vet to see if they have suggestions

answered a question Why does my dog bite his paws?

Sometimes its behavior, an anxiety based response to triggers for dogs.

I have a dog that has been doing this for months (more licking than biting, but he does nibble). We could not figure out why, because nothing had changed in our daily routine. We started doing some research about this, and it turns out he had a yeast buildup in his stomach due to a high carb low protein food. We knew this because every time he licked his fur turned pink. His saliva was pink due to the yeast buildup. We changed his diet to a higher protein, lower carb diet and he has stopped licking altogether.

answered a question What should I do if my dog has dandruff?

You can try: 1. Change in diet. 2. Changing shampoos and bath frequency. 3. More brushing. 4. Talking to a vet! Sometimes vitamins and such can help, other times it can be medical issue.

answered a question Why is my dog depressed?

Dogs love routine! If it is not a medical issue, think back about the time the behavior started. What changed in you life and your pets life? Did you miss a walk? Did you stay out at work longer? Did you do anything different in the days prior? Make a list and try to go back to how things were before the dog became depressed, sometimes a small change can make a big difference in their lives.

answered a question How should I stop my dog from humping?

If your dog is spayed or neutered then it may be a behavioral issue. There is huge misconception about humping, it is not necessarily a bad behavior! Humping can be a variety of things. 1. Play. Yes, it is associated with play! It is not always sexual or about dominance. 2. Dominance. 3. Stress relief. My personal dog does this at the dog park. When two dogs are plying too ruff or loudly, he will jump on one and start humping, to relieve the stress between the two dogs and some for himself. This is actually quite common! So, bottom line is, humping is not always a bad behavior, its natural in play, stress relief and sometimes in establishing pack lines. Try to figure out why the dog is humping and if you really want to work on it, talk to a trainer.

answered a question Why is my dog lactating?

I rescue dogs and have had a few cases like this. None of the dogs could actually be pregnant because I only had females! But here is what happened on those cases. 1. Female begins to lactate a few months after being spayed. The vet gave her stuff to cut the milk but it would come back and she acted s if she was in heat . We took her in for an ultrasound and it turned out a piece of an ovary had been left in which was causing all the mayhem! It was removed and never happened again. 2. Spayed female begins to lactate, 6 ys after being spayed. We took her in to the vet and they said it was hormonal, we had just rescued a new female that was in heat and that threw all the other dogs off. Once the dog in heat left she went back to normal. Either way, you should see a vet in any case to get an answer to why it is happening and what to do about it.

answered a question Lethargy in puppies?

See a vet asap. Lethargy in puppies can be a sign towards very bad problems like parvo or distemper. Both of these can be fatal and need treatment by a vet as soon as possible!

answered a question Do poodles shed?

Yes they do! It is a common misconception that they do not. They shed like other dogs but the fur stays on the dog, until you brush it out, which gives you the illusion of a non shedding breed :)

answered a question How often should I bathe my dog?

Once a month, or every 2 weeks. It is not recommended to bathe every week or more often, because it may dry out your pups fur.

answered a question What do I if my dog has worms?

If it is tapeworm you may see white segments that move or other parasites like small white rice like larvae. You should take him to the vet, as they can give you the specific treatment for the worm, there are various types of worms and parasites and should be treated by a vet for each type.

answered a question Why is my dog coughing?

Could be kennel cough! It is very contagious, if your dog goes to the park a lot, play dates or places where there are other dogs he can get it, even with the kennel cough vaccine :( Kennel cough can get pretty bad, dry coughing, wheezing, its best to take to a vet to get treatment to nip it in the butt!

answered a question My dog is bored, got any tips to keep him entertained?

ENRICHMENT TOYS AND GAMES!! You can hide his meal in the house, kibble by kibble even, so they can find it and practice their sniffing skills! You can also buy or make a kong type toy (where you can stuff treats into it) and a dog has to find a way to get the treats out. Some people leave the tv on for their dog, I don`t like to do that, and some dogs are not really entertained by it. You can also buy a hollow bone or toy that you can fill with peanut butter for them to lick out.

answered a question Is my dog fat? How can you tell?

A healthy dog should have; 1. A visible waistline 2. Ribs and spine are felt under the skin. 3. When you look from above you should be able to see the waist line as well.

If you dog is overweight they will lack a waistline from the side view and or above, you will not be able to feel the spine or ribs. If your dog is overweight, try reading and following the food suggestions on his dog food, its common to overfeed because we feel like the mount they should eat is too little. If you are feeding the right amount, try cutting that portion a bit and exercising more.

answered a question Help! My dog got stung by a wasp! What do I do?

Take them to the vet! It can be life threatening if they are stung in the wrong spot. They will most likely start to swell. When my dog gets stung on the face, neck or moth area to the vet. If it it somewhere else I remove the stinger with tweezers and apply aloe from a fresh plant that I have access to, and that has always stopped the swelling.

answered a question Why does my dog chew his feet?

My dog has been doing that for a while, more like licking. I thought it was anxiety at first but the licking spots were pinkish (the fur became that color) so his saliva was slightly pink for some reason. Did some research and a diet high in carbohydrates like the food he was eating, cases a build up of year in the stomach, making the spit pink and paws, tail and other body parts feel itchy. I changed his diet to a homemade high protein one (if the spit is pink just change to a higher protein and lower cab one) and he no longer licks and the spit is not pink anymore! :)

answered a question Which airlines are best to travel with a dog that must fly cargo?

If you can find a flight, go ALASKA, I swear by them. They actually care about your pet! They make you send food, water and some sort of bedding to make sure they are good for the flight. They tell you when the dog is on the flight and make me feel very comfortable with it all, no other airline has made me feel this calm when flying with my dog.

answered a question Can my dog catch my cold?

Not from a human. But they can get bordetella which may have similar symptomes.

answered a question Why does my dog pee every 5 minutes?

Take them to the vet, My dog did that and even had accidents indoors, something he has not done in 10 yrs! He had kidney stones :( My other dog did the same thing a few months later and was put on antibiotics for an infection.

answered a question Why does my dog leak urine?

Your vet can give you the real answer! But my dog had kidney stones when that happened, and he has never peed in the house except that day.

answered a question What do I do if my dog has worms?

Your vet can give you the right dosage and product for your pet. There are different types of worms and parasites and your vet can take a stool sample to identify them for proper treatment.

answered a question food agression?

I had a dog with food aggression too! I worked with a trainer and it is now 100% better. Start with making the dog sit. Then slowly put the bowl dog, but do not let it go, continue to hold onto it as the dog eats. Pick the bowl back up periodically and make the dog sit again before returning it. If you can have someone help you it makes it easier, as they can leash the dog up, so if you remove the bowl and the dog lunges it is held back. This changed my dog completely

answered a question How should I socialize my dog?
