commented question Do owners that are new to Rover get any kind of background check or screening like we do?

There is no better check system than to follow your intuition. If you feel something is "off", you're probably right. Meet in a public place and be proactive in protecting yourself. It's your business - you choose your clients. You do not have to book every client.

commented question A guest dog killed my cat. How would you handle this?

I am so sorry this happened to you and more so for the poor kitty. But I have to say I am a bit surprised at your reaction as a professional and a pet owner. Why would you even consider NOT telling them? Make sure they knew their dog attacked. It will attack again. Do it in writing.

answered a question How do we find a cat sitter?

My current client had difficulty with this as well. There was no option to choose "Cat" so he had to put in it under dog. He does not have a dog.

I think Rover needs to address this issue and expand the Cat Care option for clients & sitters. Make it more visible.

asked a question How do I adjust rate for visits every other day?

My new client needs cat care - we agreed on 1 visit every other day during the dates, So it will not be 23 visits, it will be only 12. I can't adjust this in the booking. It keeps the full rate for 23 visits.

How do I adjust this for the client?

commented question How do I rank higher in search results?

Unfortunately, all search algorithms are extremely flawed and based on the parameters as programmed by the company that uses them. They will not tell you how they have their algorithms set, so do not waste your time asking. Has nothing to do with "reviews". It's the search function that is flawed

asked a question Need to refer to another sitter

I have a request I cannot accept. How do I refer to another sitter on the website?

answered a question Have you ever used a Thundershirt?

I've talked to owners who have tried it and the majority say it does not work. The cost is far too high to "hope" it works.

asked a question Dogs that run away

Has any sitter here ever had a dog run away on them? How did you handle it with the owner? How did the client handle with you and/or Rover? My take on it is poor training (or non-existent). If a dog doesn't know basic commands, and loves to follow its nose and take off as soon as a door is opened, and the owner is aware of it, then I won't accept the job. I always feel bad for the pets when they aren't being cared for in this way because there are "no bad dogs", but I can't risk something horrible happening to the dog on my watch because the owner didn't take proper responsibility as a pet owner.

Thanks for sharing.

asked a question When does profile show up in search results?

My profile just went live yesterday but I'm not showing up in results yet. Does it take a few days?

answered a question Should I be worried about the "reverse sneeze"?

My sister's dogs do this - they are both Dachshunds. It happens when they get overly excited or after they've been running around the house.

answered a question Is Blue Buffalo a quality dog food?

I am trained in holistic pet diets and Blue is one of the best.

Lower grade foods are cheap, but they have mostly no nutritional value. Your pet will eat more of the cheap food faster - because they aren't getting the nutrients they truly need. You'll find that higher quality foods satisfy them, so they won't eat all the time (which is more cost effective for you!)

Always read the ingredients. If it doesn't sound like something you would eat, you probably shouldn't give it to your pet. Cheap foods are mostly gluten, dyes and other things I won't disgust you with here. :/

When switching foods, remember to mix them at first, gradually reduce the old food and add more new food so their tummy can adjust easily. You might find your pet will then pick out the old food and spit it out on the floor and go right for the better brand. They know better than we do sometimes - their sense of smell for "bad" is amazing! :D

answered a question Does anyone make their own dog food?

Pick up a copy of Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats. It's a great reference and will lead you to finding the best way to cook for your pets. :)

answered a question Home made dog treats

Hi -

I worked for holistic vet and learned about natural diets for pets and we had several books we referenced. One of them was Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats. It's a great all-around info guide and recipe book.

I've cooked for many dogs and cats and they are so much more satisfied and healthier for eating "real" food. :)
