commented answer Pet parent on Social Security needs sitter to be certified? **ANSWERED**?

Thanks for the comment Kay! In this case, it sounds like the person is trying to phish her for personal information (IE. SS number) which is very scary. I'd report the Owner and messages to Rover.

commented question Are sitters who come into your home required to be licensed and bonded?

Rover does require that sitters follow your local laws and regulations regarding licensing and other requirements. Bonding for single individual isn't available (of the who one has the insurance) by insurance agencies because the theft of the individual with the insurance is seen as an intentional act.

Bonding is for company's with employees, in which the company or owners who has the insurance would cover you if their employee ever stole something. If there was an instance where someone stole something from your own home (say you hired a contractor) you'd either need to file a claim with your home owners insurance or seek legal action against them personally.

Hope that helps!

answered a question How to handle meet and greets with a potentially aggressive dog?

Ask the Owners about their dogs history before meeting. A caring and responsible Owner will be candid about their dogs history, personality, or incompatibility with other dogs (regardless of if they have any or not) even before scheduling a meet.

However, it's important to keep in mind the safety and security of your own dog before meeting with a dog who've personally never met or evaluated–I say this because meet & greets are not covered by Rover's insurance for either dog.

All payments must be done through Rover in order for them to book with you, otherwise you'd be violating the Terms of Service. I would advise you to inform the Owner of know this and have them reach out to Rover for more information since Sitter do not handle payment transactions.

commented answer What pet health insurance do you have?

Great answer and definitely a positive note as far as pet insurances goes. Many Owners might not know, but Rover's insurance doesn't cover issues that may arise with respect to pre-existing conditions or breed-specific conditions like you mention. This would be a perfect example!

commented question How often should I have my dogs teeth cleaned by a vet?

This recommendation would ultimately be up to your vet as they are the only one equipt with providing medical advice for your pet. Your vet would need to a physical examination to check your dogs teeth for periodontitis as well as ay inflammation or infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth. This is one of the many reasons an annual check-up is so important. A good vet will check out your pup out from nose to tail. :)

In some instances an x-ray would be necessary (just as you would get one at the dentist every year yourself) to ensure your dogs teeth are healthy or spot any dental concerns. Dental cleanings can vary based on your dog's age and overall oral health, but again will be the sole recommendation of a licensed vet who's done an exam on your dogs teeth.

You can be proactive in your dog's oral health by brushing their teeth two times a day at home using toothpaste and a tooth brushed designed specifically for dogs. They run about $5-$10 for a complete set at places like Target and Petco.

If brushing your dogs teeth is something new to you, you can learn more on how to brush your dogs teeth at home here: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/brushing-teeth-in-dogs/3951 (http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-...)

commented question Is it ok to bathe my dog once a week?

However, if you just still in doubt, ask your vet for a shampoo and condition they recommend. They will be able to recommend the right product based on your dog's breed, gender, climate, activity and the anatomical size as the pH levels can vary from 5.5 to 7.5 in alkaline concentration.

Keep in mind, that despite old mindsets dog shampoo's and conditioners these days are not made with harsh chemicals. A quality dog shampoo and conditioner will not disrupt your dogs natural oils and pH levels. Look for natural shampoos that contain vitamin E, aloe vera, honey, and tea tree oil.

commented question Is it ok to bathe my dog once a week?

Yes, if you and your pups are very active, a once a week is okay. Weekly or bi-weekly bathing can prevent itchiness, washing allergens away before they get a chance to penetrate the skin. If you hike in wooded areas, a bath will also allow you check and remove for any ticks immediately following your active time outdoors. This while allow you to quickly wash away any pollutants, toxic chemicals or wildlife containments that your dogs may have picked up on their fur or paws. This is also a great time to check in between their foot pads of any debris or sores if you are active through rough terrane.

If they're not muddy and just a little dirty, a simple wipe down with a clean wet cloth over the top of your dogs coat and feet will do the trick. You can also buy "pet bath wipes" for portability, Nature's Miracle sells a contain for about $4. The wipes are all-natural and won't mess with their essential skin oils.
