answered a question I currently charge $15 for walks and visits. I am thinking of raising my rates to $18 so that I can actually receive $15. Will this hurt me?

I think the best thing to do is look at the competition in your area and see what those sitters are charging for walks. Where I live (suburb west of Boston) I charge $20 so get $16 per walk and no one seems to think that is high. If you have a bunch of established clients who are happy with you, that $3 shouldn't make a big difference to them. Good luck with whatever you decide!

answered a question Does anyone give their clients a Christmas gift?

I might say give the family a card and a treat for the dog, but I would think the pet owners would be giving you a gift not the other way around!

answered a question Should I charge more to sit dogs that are not good with other dogs?

Rover just added a feature where you can customize pricing for different clients. I am going to use it to freeze my boarding price for existing customers, then raise my rate $5 in January. Hope this new feature will help you. I only take one dog at a time out of fear there will be a problem. At least two of my customers told me they picked me for boarding because of that-they know their dogs are unpredictable around other dogs and want them to be the only dog. But not everyone knows that, or sometimes a usually mild-mannered dog takes a dislike to another...

answered a question How do I get my newly adopted dog out of the crate to do his business?

Our dog used to panic and try to stay in his crate when dog walkers, even very familiar ones, came to take him out. We started leaving his leash on him so they could open the crate and lure him out with the leash. Obviously you have to make sure the leash can't get stuck in the crate and stays loose. But it worked--once he was out, he was his friendly self. Good luck!
