answered a question Anyone ever had to ask an owner to return?

Since he's a small dog, do you have an area in your home (long hallway?) where you could repeatedly throw a ball or toy for him to retrieve in an effort to tire him out before going outside to potty? Maybe it's best to do inside play for the remainder of his stay? Also, have you tried walking him on a harness? When I have a dog misbehave during a walk, I just turn around and walk the opposite direction. When they settle down, we start back on our original path again. If he misbehaves, we turn around and walk the opposite direction again. I do this over and over if needed. It seems to distract their attention and they don't get to go where they want until they settle down...

commented answer What to do when a dog is being aggressive with me?

I agree with Frances. The owner needs to compensate you for the damage to your property and trip to the vet. It could have been worse. Their "forgetfulness" put not only this poor dog at risk, but the other dogs, you, and anyone else in your household...

answered a question Why isn't the last day of sitting considered?

When a client submits a request or inquires about a booking, I always ask right up front what time would they need to drop-off and pick-up. I explain that the "nightly charge" covers a 24-hour period of time and if it's over that 24 hours there will be an added "daycare charge".

answered a question more than two dogs

Roberta, I would also bring harness, leash, toys and anything else that would make them feel safe and comfortable.

answered a question How long do you wait until you assume the owner isn't going to book?

Since most owners may submit requests to several different sitters at the same time, I usually give them 2 days to book. If I do not get a response, I will send them a follow-up message asking them if they found a sitter. At that point, they typically respond to let me know they booked with someone else. Then I archive that booking.

answered a question Should a Sitter request that Owners provide their own dog food during the rover stay?

Owners always provide their own food, treats etc. and I only feed what they provide. The last thing you want is a puppy with an upset tummy during their stay... I like Carmen C's list above and I love the idea of having a tag with your sitter info on it. Thanks for the idea!! Your list is very similar to mine, but I always ask them to provide a harness too. I only walk dogs on harness as it's too easy for one to slip out of their collar and be gone...

answered a question How to feel about raw feedings?

I only use the food my clients provide and I'm ok with raw food. I have a couple of clients on raw food diets and I keep a separate plastic box in the fridge to store their food during stays. I'm fortunate that they prepackage their meals for me and I always wash their bowls after each feeding.

answered a question Questionnaire for New Clients

I've been a Rover sitter for over a year. I save all my questions for the Meet & Greet, so I don't overwhelm them with too much - especially if it's the first time they are using http://Rover.com (and I write down the info during our M&G). I always ask them to complete care instructions and vet info on their dog's profile. I will check before drop-off day, and if the info still is not completed I will message them with a reminder to make sure their dog's info is up-to-date before their stay. This has been working well.
