answered a question | Meeting a prospective dog owner - I'm a little concerned about having a stranger come to my home for a first meeting. His phone number is for a city 1,500 miles away. Best to meet him at a public place first? Other ideas? I agree with Grace. Feel free to ask them to complete their Rover profile, not only for your safety but also for the dog's. I always do meet and greets at a nearby park first and I always take a friend. Owner's shouldn't object to you wanting to see how their dog interacts with you and your dog before bringing them into your home. And meeting in a public place is usually easier on both dogs as neither feels territorial. If after meeting them in a public place, don't be afraid to be honest if you don't think it's a good fit. Part of being a good sitter is keeping a safe home. |
asked a question | Is there a way to share reviews of owners? I recently sat a dog who was not house-trained despite what the owner said. Even though we went outside every couple hours (and she peed every time we went out), she still came in and immediately went to pee in my basement and pooped on a rug. The owner did not seem the least bit surprised or apologetic about this and just told me to put down newspaper, which her dog missed every single time. Plus, the owner sprung extra medication on me as she was dropping the dog off despite me asking her multiple times if her dog had any particular needs. I know I can keep my own notes on this stay, but is there a way to share reviews so sitters know what they're in for with certain owners? If an owner isn't honest in their description of their dog, is there a way to try to prevent these sorts of things from being sprung on fellow sitters? |
