commented question | Why am I charged for a service prior to the service happening? It's the best middle-ground to protect the sitter's time and income, as well as the client's time and funds. |
commented question | Why am I charged for a service prior to the service happening? I'm not familiar with all types of credit cards, but a fee charged for making a late payment on a credit card is a separate issue. Also, unlike reserving, say, a rental car of which there are many, you are reserving a person's time which is harder to replace on short notice if a client cancels. |

answered a question | Do you need a car in order to be a dog sitter? I choose not to own a car, and I love it. I keep my service area within bus-service radius, but clients outside my radius, or on days the bus is closed, can pay $20/visit so I can get Zipcar (hourly rental) or Lyft/Uber, if they want. For emergencies during boarding, I have a pop-up crate, and if a Lyft/Uber driver can't take the dog and I, at least they can get me quickly to a Zipcar so I can transport the pupper. |
answered a question | I have a potential client who wants a trial one day boarding, for free? If the client does not pay and book through Rover, then there is no coverage through Rover, either. Many sitters have offered full or partial daycare, with a reduced cost, for clients that want a trial run. This way everyone is covered, and the sitter is still paid for their time. Any client that is truly interested in your service will understand this. |
commented question | Why am I charged for a service prior to the service happening? The charge is created when the booking is confirmed, to ensure the sitter will be paid. The sitter does not receive the funds until 2 days after the booking ends, so that the client can be assured that service has occurred. If it has not, call Rover Support to request a refund. |

answered a question | What legal recourse do the neighbors of Rover.com dog boarders have when the ongoing boarding of 5 to 6 dogs at a time is causing a severe nuisance? You will need to check into your local ordinances about filing a nuisance complaint, or speak with your neighbor. Rover does not employ the sitters listed on the site. |
commented answer | Dog walking fee/ communication with client ?? I also do not like conflict or being disapproved of, and I understand people are afraid of bad reviews. An uncomfortable interaction w/a client is temporary; you do it, it sometimes sucks, but then it's done. Discomfort is natural, does not mean you are wrong. Good luck! |
commented answer | Dog walking fee/ communication with client ?? The simple answer is if they don't want to pay your rate, you do not want them as a customer. You can also refer them to the Rover Guarantee; in order for the dogs to be covered in your care for an hour, they *have* to book 2 half-hour segments. |
