asked a question surprised a bishon/poodle is being vicious. Advice for this?

I thought that it had a problem with it's paw, but when my husband deals with him he is okay. Then this morning when I was just petting him on his back while my dog was 3 feet away drinking water, he growled and semi-attacked at me. This is a crazy dog and day one of a week stay! ??? I have never seen anything like this before and I have been with Rover for 2 years.

answered a question How to charge for problems after booking (extra cleaning)?

I feel for ya! I had a dog with separation anxiety and she bit my door knob to the garage. She knew that was the way out of the house. lol Anyway, Rover does not have any sort of monetary way of getting the damages reimbursed. I let the owners know and they just took the dog and left. I was hoping they would have given some sort of compensation, but no. However, in the past with other dogs that would go in the house, their owners would either send me an extra gift or food or gift card. On average most of the owners are good natured and really want their dog to behave.

answered a question Already sitting dog, owner's vacation cancelled due to weather - How would you respond?

If it is prime vacation time and you are missing out on other bookings I would hold to your agreement. Most of us are small time sitters just taking in a couple of dogs at a time. We need to run the business and know 'it is just business'. They could've adjusted their plans in other ways.

answered a question Boosting search rank with Photos?

I really do not notice that taking pictures boosts my rank very much. HMMM. I take pictures all of the time, but still need to boost it otherwise.

answered a question do the dogs have to be recently vaccinated before they can be watched?

I try to let the owner know that there is a location on the site to input the vet and all info they can. That way if I need to contact a vet if problems arise, I can. You never know and it is important to be prepared and keep the animals safe.

commented answer Best tips for sitting barkers?

Thank you! I am getting me one for my own dog. He barks at neighbors 4 doors down the street. God love him, but not when he barks at everyone. :)

commented question Taking notes at M&G?

I like to make notes after the meet and greet is over. I just want to have a one on one situation with the owner and the dog. It usually isn't long, I suggest to the owner that the send me notes of specific information. That way it is in their words and not mine. Most people are happy to do so.

answered a question Best tips for sitting barkers?

You really need to contact the owner and ask if there is a reason. I just had one dog bark, but it was only because he wanted a snack at a certain time of day. Who would've known? Luckily the owner simply texted me early on. He knew it was going to be an issue. Problem was solved. :)

answered a question How can assess if dog is actually crate trained?

Ask the owner. Here you will need to be a detective and try to see if they are telling the truth. If they don't have one then maybe they never did or got rid of it. They will most likely be forthcoming about how good they are about being in a crate. Ask how long they will bark or whine or howl. Ask the owner where the dog sleeps at night.

answered a question For drop-in visits how much do you charge for more than one dog?

This is completely up to you, as it is your business. I can don't do drop in visits, however, I think two dogs are a lot more work. I have had multiple dogs and they keep you juggling sometimes. I don't do it anymore for sitting in my home. I think you can try out a price and then alter it if you see fit. Good luck!

answered a question Where are the good dogs?

Always do a meet and greet. I will not take a dog without it. You will pick up on the way dogs with anxiety pace and look around your space. I have had a couple of dogs with separation anxiety and Never Again! I have learned my lesson. Hindsight is 2020.
-ask if the dog can be left home alone and for how long. -ask if the dog barks when left home alone.
-ask where the dog sleeps just a few options. Hope it helps.

Also, I never take more than one dog. For me you just never know how other dogs will be with each other. You will notice usually within a few minutes if they will get along or Not.

answered a question Rates - nightly vs 24 hour?

It is completely up to you on how to customize your business. I usually don't mind keeping the dog extra hours if I am available. However, I am not in it to make a lot of $. I just love dogs!

When I get a dog that is not being good, I ask the owner to come earlier if possible. Sticky situations...

answered a question what dog breed is the worst to sit for?

It mostly depends upon the Owners and how they have trained or NOT trained their dogs. I have had big dogs that I loved and little dogs that were not so great! Really just need to ask a lot of questions and meet the dog to find out whether they are good or not.

commented question Do you get requests from Owners when you have no availability?

I get that sometimes. I think it is a glitch in the system. Rover needs to work on that. The owners do not want sitters to say they are not available when the calendar clearly state we are.

answered a question No longer want to provide day care services?

I think there are a lot of other Rover sitters in my area. If you have some in your area, too, they can look for another rover day care opportunity. Then everyone wins.

answered a question Can I contact a previous owner to see if I can be of service again to them?

We have our favorite dogs we log to see again and again. I am going to contact them to make sure they remember us and that we love to be around their dog.

commented question Disputes at the end of the stay?

This is one of the reasons I like rover so much! I don't like asking for payment. Here, the website does it for you! I have had an owner come back sooner than anticipated and Rover was easy to work with in giving them their money back.

commented question What should I charge for 20 hours care per day?

MY thought is that it is the most of the day. Sometimes night time is the easiest. If it were me I would charge a regular day amount. However, I do not go to owners' homes... This is completely up to you!

commented question What is the ratio of problem dogs you have had?

One of my first dogs through rover was ok in the meet and greet, but aggressive and bit my dog during the stay, so I kept it outside on a lead after that. This dog did not have many teeth, that was the red flag that he bites a lot...and doesn't let go! I found out this dog stayed in a crate a lot!

commented question What is the ratio of problem dogs you have had?

YES, owners are not always honest is there descriptions of their dogs. I have had a few with problems. One had horrible anxiety and was all over the place when no one else was in the room. The owner was retired and spent their entire lives with the dog. I try to be really careful about retirees.

commented question What is the maxmimum hours in a day that a dog can be crated?

Please, if you have to crate a dog, make sure the crate is the appropriate size. They should be able to stand up in the crate without having to bend down their neck. It is so sad to get a dog back from a kennel that has been in a crate too small.

commented question How do you stop a dog from digging?

I had a herding dog do it when he was bored. We distracted him to do other things and took him for more walks. It worked and he did not dig anymore. :)

commented question How do you get a dog to lose weight?

I have had very helpful people at the pet stores steer me to the more healthy dog food. No matter what kind of problem you might have with your pet, the food can be the answer. It would be worth a try.

answered a question What are English Bulldog traits?

Unfortunately, I had an English Bulldog come for a stay and it didn't work out. One look at this very kind Golden Retriever and it sparked something in him and he kept wanting to attack the other dog. I am very concerned with ever having a bulldog in the house. Am I wrong? Was this a fluke?

answered a question excessive licking?

There is always the 'cone of shame' if you want the dog to stop licking while in your care...

commented answer excessive licking?

I have a Bichon that licks excessively. He licks his paws, legs, the carpet blanket, pillow, sheets. We have to stop him, but it is only a temporary fix. I have heard that it is an allergy, but not sure.

asked a question How does the normal day visit work? Are the owners giving you a key to enter their homes?

I am not very comfortable entering peoples homes. I am worried they might accuse me of something I did not do.

answered a question Is Rover.com making Rate Adjustments now??

I guess we should all double check the rate to make sure it is what we expect before booking just to be sure. :)

commented question Is Rover.com making Rate Adjustments now??

I just started this summer, a couple of months ago, and it was there at that time. So if it is new then you know it has been then there at least a couple of months. I thought it was a little strange that they would set or adjust a rate. Maybe to stay competitive.

asked a question Is there any way to delete, on facebook, a message regarding referals?

I had a person in mind who lived out of town to become a pet sitter. I wanted to just send a message to her, however, the message went to the world. I would like to delete the message on facebook but do not have the standard que in the corner.
