| asked a question | Why is my dog pawing and rubbing at his teeth? I have an 8 year old rat terrier chihuahua mix. Lately he has been rubbing his face on the floor and pawing at his mouth a lot. He has also been really itchy and I even found a flea on him today. I read on another forum that sometimes dogs do this when they have fleas or have been bitten by something. Can anyone confirm this? P.S....going to buy flea meds tomorrow hopefully. |

| asked a question | can dogs develop allergies as they age? My dog is 8 years old. For years, I had been feeding him beneful. I noticed recently that he was itching like crazy. He looked miserable. It wasn't fleas because I gave him his flea treatment not long before. I changed his food to Solid Gold and he stopped itching. This has never happened before. Could this have been a grain allergy? |

I think it would be fun to try one of the DNA tests. Does anyone have experience with these that they are willing to share? |

| answered a question | Rat Terriers I'm so glad someone asked about Rat Terriers because I feel like no one knows they exist. I have a rat terrier chihuahua mix. He is very energetic and always needs to be entertained. He is really sweet and has separation anxiety, but can also be very independent--as long as he knows you are near. He's very smart but sometimes only listens when it is to his advantage. He is a huge snuggler. He also barks a LOT. And he digs. He barks out of boredom, he'll whine when he wants something. In other words, he is really good at communicating when he needs something. He does shed but only mildly. He was a bit of a handful as a puppy, but now his main problem is barking. He also loves to run outside and chase things. He thinks he is bigger than he really is. I could go on and on, but that will tell you some things about my experience with rat terriers. |
