answered a question Should a Sitter request that Owners provide their own dog food during the rover stay?

I request that the owner provides any food and treats for their dog. I do keep extra treats for when owners do not pack any, but the food is a must. Each dog has a different diet, so providing the food yourself would be too expensive and difficult.

answered a question Security cameras in the clients home--would you be comfortable?

I would definitely feel weird knowing that something is watching me and someone can look back on a video tape and see every move I made throughout the day, but I would still do the stay because I know that I am a responsible and trustworthy person and I would not do anything that I would be ashamed of them seeing.

answered a question How do I get paid?

Rover will deposit the money you earn into your PayPal account. If you don't have one, just make one. You can also request to receive a check, but you have to pay a fee for the check.

answered a question How do you show owners you love watching their dog?

I like to send the owner a bunch of pictures and fun updates when their dog is in my care! Then when the dog goes home I will give the owner a thank you card, reflecting on the stay and saying that I hope to stay with their dog again in the future, and a little "treat bag" containing some dog treats and either a toy or a rawhide.

answered a question How are you sharing your code?

I advertise my code on Craigslist and Facebook. I also have made business cards and matching business card magnets, which I give out to my customers. I give my customers a thank you card with one magnet for them and 2 business cards for them to (hopefully) share with their friends! I also give out my cards and magnets to anyone I see with a dog.

answered a question Do you stay overnight when you are a traveling sitter?

If the owner specifically asks me to stay overnight, then I will. If the owner leaves the decision to stay or leave up to me, then I do which ever is easiest for me and my daily schedule.

answered a question Do you let guest dogs sleep with you?

I personally do not mind having dogs sleep in my bed with me. If that is what makes the dog feel the most comfortable and at home, then that is fine with me. However, if the dog is big or is a bed hog and my sleep is being disturbed, then I will make the dog get down. I think the decision is up to you. If you are not comfortable with dogs sleeping in your bed, and the owner has specifically requested that they want you to sleep with their dog, then just let the owner know how you feel and assure them that you will do your best to make the dog feel safe and comfortable by making them an area of their own where they can sleep.

answered a question What are some (ideal) Meet & Greet questions?

In addition, to all of the great answers above, you should make sure to ask the owner about any likes and dislikes the dog may have, as well as any quirky behaviors or habits. I once watched a dog who drank water so fast that he would cough very badly, as if he was choking on something, but the owner warned me of this before the stay took place and assured me that it was absolutely normal. If I had not asked the owner the question about quirky behaviors, then I would've been pretty freaked out when I heard the dog coughing so badly!
