answered a question What to do if I can feel stitches under my dogs skin that haven't dissolved?

It may not be stitches at all. It could be scar tissue that has hardened. Your best bet is to have your vet check it out to be sure.

commented answer How do I get my two dogs to understand which one I am talking to?

Great advice, i will try that!

asked a question How do I get my two dogs to understand which one I am talking to?

I address each dog by name before scolding or commanding. But when I am telling my puppy NO for something, my older dog stops what he is doing and vice versa. Besides saying their name first, is there a better way for each dog to know if I am talking to them or to the other dog?

answered a question Do you let guest dogs sleep with you?

This would be a personal choice for you and you should not feel pushed into letting a guest dog into your bed if you are not comfortable. I personally do not let any dogs into my bed. I have a small puppy which needs to be crate trained so she would not be trusted in the bed all night. And then I have a standard poodle that likes to change positions every hour and it wakes me. Those are the reasons my own do not sleep with me. As far as guest pets, I have found that they are actually much more comfortable sleeping in the designated pet area I have then to be away from them all alone in my room. Many of my guests are crate trained too and find there crate to be a safe place for them. Hope this helps!

answered a question How does a dog sitter handle a stay with a dog who is shy and shakes when he gets nervous?

I have been a pet sitter to many of shy and anxious dogs! My personal approach is to not force them into interacting with me or the other dogs. I would start out by playing with my other pups near the shy dog and most times the dog will inch his way into the fun. Or I might let all of the other dogs out and spend one on one time with the timid dog and show it lots of calm love. Usually the longer the timid dog stays, the more open it becomes. Just takes time and trying different scenarios for different dogs!

answered a question Why do people dock dogs tails?

There are claims that docking benefits a dogs skills like hunting etc. But now it is just a breed standard for some. If you get a dog that the standard look is with a docked tail then you will look out of place.

answered a question Any suggestions on how to stop puppy mouthing and play biting?

You have to teach your puppy bite inhibition. Meaning that they can control how forceful their bite is. Never allow a puppy to chew on your hands, even if it does not hurt. When a puppy is play biting you or even accepting a treat from your hand, say OUCH and remove your hand until it bites gently. Repetition is the key in teaching anything to a puppy. Do it over and over and over and he will finally get that he has to bite softer to get what he wants.......the treat or you.

answered a question How can I get my dog to stop jumping?

I am currently teaching my pup to not jump. My simple approach is to say NO when she does jump. When i come home i will not greet her or pet her unless she does not jump. It's working well!

answered a question Does anyone have tips on teaching dogs how to go up a set of stairs?

I taught my puppy by putting a small treat on each step. I praised her every step and repeated a few times until she lost her fear!
