marked best answer | Does anyone have a consent form they use for taking sits to the vet? I had to take a sit to the vet for the first time. The vet was upset that I didn't have a form of consented for me making decisions, cost and that owner accepts responsibility for the cost. I would like to have one for my future customer. What an awful experience! |

commented answer | asking permission before posting dog pics on your profile? You can hide pictures. Just go to the dogs profile and hover on the picture you do not want public and click hide. I have hundreds of pictures that only the client can see. |

answered a question | advice for new sitters to book clients? You can call them. When I first started I would send a text reply right away. If I didn't hear back I would follow up with an actual phone call. I think people don't realize that they are texting a real live person. Hope that helps. Amber G |

answered a question | When does the Report Card system go into effect? I used it once and hated it!!! Drank water x amount of times... IDK??? Pooped, yeah I'm sure he did. It was for a daycare sit. I could see using it for drop in visits but those are not always walks. Some dogs just need potty relief. Over all just more work. I already spend entirely to much time on my phone taking pictures, sending update and the average start up text for a meet and greet seems to 20 text. Crazy! Where is the time for the actual dogs. I say thumbs down! |
commented answer | Working out vacation time with a full time Rover business? I also make my calendar as unavailable |
answered a question | Working out vacation time with a full time Rover business? I send every one of my 105 customer a message 90 days in advance letting them know of my planed vacation. I have a few great Rover sitters in my area that I trust and refer my customers to during my vacation. Then if for some reason I end up with Rover dogs I will explain my vacation plan and have them meet the person staying at my home that will be caring for my dog and theirs. I have tried 4 times to take a planed vacation and still end up with Rover dogs. People love and trust me and want their pups in my care. I hope that gives you some ideas and good luck! Amber G. |

commented answer | rates for medication administration? $2 sounds fair for pills. I have seen others charge $5 for injections. |
answered a question | rates for medication administration? I use the cost adjustment under edit stay price to add extras that are not on my profile. I wish there was a medication box and price list. |
answered a question | New to Rover... should I do the Rover 101? And after you pass you will get a code for free business cards. Happy sitting, Amber G |

answered a question | Are pet owners advised about our Quiet Hours if they submit a request during that time? Quite hours do not count against you. |
answered a question | Share Dog Reviews with other Rover Sitters? I sit dogs that the owners have become Rover.com sitters. I am actually glad that the reviews are privet. Now that they are sitters I would be terrible embarrassed for a customer to read the candid note I left about their dogs. My reviews are professional but honest and that could affect future stays and my personal reviews. If the reviews become public to other sitters I hope Rover.com makes past reviews closed. Just my two cents... Amber G. |
answered a question | How do you handle last minute requests? I have had a few, and they have been stressful sits. There is a reason people are having a hard time finding a sitter. With that being said.... I am sure it is a case by case and I would ask lots of questions as to why??? the last minute request and are you ready to deal with a dog that you haven't screened. In my option I feel like some people take advantage of us kind Rover sitters because they have been turned down by professional boarding/kennel facilities and are desperate to find care for their pup. BUT THIS IS JUST WHAT I THINK... I would be careful Hope that helps, Amber |

answered a question | My customers aren't giving me reviews?? This might make you feel better. I have 377 sits and only 125 reviews. All my customers are happy just some people don't give reviews. I would rather have no review than get one of those people who " Never give 5 stars". I only ask my repeat customer if they have not left me a review, that way I can be sure I wont get 4 stars with kind words... The stars matter and I have been noticing a lot of 4 star Rover sitters with great reviews. Some people don't get how much that impacts our business. Just my thoughts. Happy sitting Amber G. |
answered a question | How are you advertising your services? I put my card any where there are poop bag stations. They are in parks, trails, pet store and even some apartments have poop bag stations. I also leave them in local vet offices and any restaurant with a bulletin boards. I spend a ton of time at the dog park but I let people ask for them there. I don't want to be pushy. Hope that helps. commented answer | I have been a Rover sitter for nearly a year and am now rated darn good. I want to raise my prices a little. Can I do that and let my 6 repeat customers know that for 6 months they can have my "OLD" price? I looked at your profile, I think I waited until I had 50 reviews and than again at 100 reviews to increase my rate. A big PLUS is you only take one pup at a time, I would charge more based on that alone. People will pay more for that. Knowing that their pups is getting all your attention. |
answered a question | I have been a Rover sitter for nearly a year and am now rated darn good. I want to raise my prices a little. Can I do that and let my 6 repeat customers know that for 6 months they can have my "OLD" price? I raised my rates for all customers and I have a lot of repeats. Only two asked for a discount on stays over tens days. The others didn't even blink an eye. They are still getting a better experience than any kennel and my rates are fair. Hope that helps, Amber G |
answered a question | What to do about territorial marking? If I have a habitual maker he gets a wrap. You can buy them at the pet store, a little expensive but better that pee all over your house. I find most dogs mark the first day and then are done. I mop and clean with bleach and that seems to help. As you stated its on a chair and its a girl. I would put a diaper on her when she is unsupervised, save your furniture. Hope that helps, Amber G. |
commented answer | Why does rover take out so much for fees? Well said! I love Rover and couldn't do this without them. GREAT support team, insurance and of course advertising. |
answered a question | How many sitters have used Rover yard signs? I LOVE my yard sign! It has given some business, but what it dose do is lets my new customers looking for my house a professional marker that they have found the place. |
answered a question | Wondering if you could share the paperwork you have dog owners sign before sitting? I googled what documents I wanted to use. There are a lot out there, choose the one that fits the needs of your business. Happy sitting, Amber G |
commented question | Is Rover paying you for your sitting? What am I doing wrong? support [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]. Look on your dashboard you should see payment and pending payments. You don't just automatically get paid. You need to set up paypal or request a check. Then move the funds when they are available. Hope that helps |

answered a question | When am I ever going to get a special client? You had asked a similar question back in July. I looked at your profile and gave you some helpful tips then. I followed up recently and notice you had not changed a thing. What I said back in July I think would be helpful for your profile once you get it active again. |
answered a question | Is it ever appropriate to not have a meet and greet? I have done it. It is not a good idea. One example, they said the other sitter flaked last minute and their pup was a basenji. I only take small dogs and I accepted without a meet and greet. THEY SHOW UP WITH A PITBULL MIX! A large dog. Now I have to stress and worry about safety and what my other customers think when they see their sweet 5lb pup with a large dog. I find that people that don't have time for a meet and greets might not be totally honest and desperate to find a sitter. I have a few other examples but all with the same out come, dogs that are not a fit for my home and the customer was not up front about issues with the dog. Meet and greets are very important! I hope that helps, happy sitting! Amber G |
answered a question | I let my guest dogs sleep in my bed, is this something i should rethink? I do what ever it takes to get a good nights sleep. If a pups is happy in a dog bed, on the couch, or in a create then so be it. BUT if they a crying and barking then they usually end up in bed with me. |

answered a question | How to raise Dog Walking Rates? How come you don't use Rover.com for your dog walking? You would be insured that if you did. Your customer would also get $20 off the first time they use Rover.com for dog walking. A great incentive to show them you are a professional and your new rates. Just my thoughts... Happy Dog walking, Amber G. |
commented question | advice for zoning issues? My friend is having the same problem and she is with Rover.com also. Animal control told her there was no way she would get a permit for boarding but she could for dog walking. That is what she is working on right now. I believe the dog walking license is easy to get. Good LUCK! |
answered a question | i am scheduled to meet an owner her not neutered dog next week I am not sure i feel comfortable with that. Aren't un neutered dogs more aggresive and mark their territory inside and outside? They hump more and tend to up set the pack with all their humping which in turn can lead to fights. They aren't being aggressive, just not listing that the other dogs are telling them "NO, stop humping me." That has been my experience, I don't take in tacked males or females for that reason. Hope that helps and happy sitting, Amber G. |
answered a question | Hosting multiple dogs during holiday season? Like Frances said... Meet and Greets are very important. You want to make sure you are getting the right kind of dogs. I find customers are not always honest and are desperate during the holidays to find someone to take their pup. Then using baby gates and crates when pups need space or a time out. The most important thing is lots of exercise for all the pups. I get the dogs to the park every day for at least an hour. I have had a few bad apples and again like Frances said it will be the longest and most stressful sit of you life. But you live and learn! I often have 8 to 10+ dogs and that's not even during holidays. I hope this helps. Happy sitting, Amber G |
answered a question | I just received a poor review and am devasted. Not sure how to process this information? OUCH!!! I am so sorry to that happened to you. I had a flee problem also. Advantage and Frontline just aren't doing the job any more. I had to change my pups to an oral treatment from the vet. Going forward during the Meet and Greets I would talk about what type of flee treatment the new customer is using to help prevent flees. This way the ball is their court and they cant blame you for flees. Also did you call Rover support? They can help you word your response to the review. I think you did a good job but Rover might have few things you can say to help restore your reputation. Hope that helps, Amber G. |
commented answer | How do I know I can trust these sitters and how do I know they will take care of my furbabies? Great answer! |
answered a question | Success with Google+ Business Profile? I have had the Google plus for a while now. Not one hit form it. I still maintain it but have yet to see results. |
answered a question | I'm having trouble getting my first pet sitting job? I looked at your profile. It seems incomplete and you start out saying that you are not a professional. I would add more pictures of you with dogs, remove the first line in your profile and fill in the rest of your profile, it is missing a lot. I only took a quick look, hope that helps. Happy sitting, Amber G |
