asked a question Does Uber or Lyft allow nonassistance dogs? What if its an emergency?

Do you think an Uber driver would have picked us up in an emergency for a four block ride home?

I was walking a pet friend this past weekend and she was stung by a bee in the park. She couldn't/wouldn't walk. I considered leaving her with another park goer and running home to get the car. Since we were only four blocks and she was a small breed I ended up carrying her home.

A note for Uber hatters- I know, I use Uber because people know what it is but a regular taxi would have worked too but not all of us live in Manhatten and can hail a taxi (Portland, for example, is call head only).

Two tips for Rover and Uber: 1) Maybe Uber should offer a "once every 3 months emergency strange request tool" that allows their drivers to be heroes when we need them. 2) Maybe Rover should offer emergency ride credit codes for when you are out on a walk and need to get home or to the Vet ASAP for doggy's health. Obviously trying to figure out how the codes work while doggy is in pain isn't the best solution but I'm sure the smart people at Uber and Rover can figure something out.

asked a question When you disagree with the pet care instructions do you say anything?

I recently sat for a family and the dog was very overweight for its breed and stature. The instructions didn't mention diabetes or other health conditions but did call for a cup of food 3 times a day and pork skin treats as often as I liked.

It was a quick visit (just two nights) and a very hot weekend so doggy didn't eat the food on her prescribed schedule (common for most dogs the first day or two). I only gave her one treat because I was monitoring the regular food intake. She drank water, not as much as others but some....but her urine was very yellow and not much of it.

Also, her nails were pretty long and she had trouble sitting and laying because of her weight. I know some families can't afford regular vet visits but should I have pointed out the overfeeding and lack of nail care to the parents? Maybe suggested some low-cost vet and grooming options?

answered a question Do most of you ask the dog owner to provide poop bags or do you typically provide those?

My clients usually provide them (they are a bit spendy) but I also have a roll because things get forgotten when packing pets and family for vacation.

answered a question Should I ask for proof of identification from my sitter?

I agree, I would never ask that of a pet parent...but if someone offered or asked me I may let them bring a relative if it was a holiday weekend. But you have to wonder...are they looking to sit your pet or have a free staycation? Also, girlfriend implies sex...are they staying in your bed and using the hot tub. Unprofessional and Gross.
