answered a question Very anxious dog, help!?

You have a very delicate situation on your hands. When I have a dog that is in a very anxious mood and distraction, exercise, play time or even petting doesn't calm the dog down I will do 1 of 2 things and maybe both. . I keep Benadryl in my emergency kit for dogs and I will give the dog the benadryl as prescribed by the Merck Veterinarian manual based on the dogs weight. That will make the dog less anxious and somewhat drowsy. I also have on hand 5 or thunder vest in multiple sizes because I get a lot of requests during 4th of July. They are like a weighted blanket for a person and makes the dog feel like their being held. But for severe cases I will incorporate both.I hope this helps

answered a question Why can't trainers offer training?

We can train. If you have a sitter that you like and is qualified as a certified trainer in the area that you need help with for your fur baby all you have to do at the time of requesting the stay is to ask your sitter if they would be willing to train. Then ask them what they charge come to an agreement and that's it. I personally have incorporated training in many of my stays. I also have my rate for training clearly listed on my profile. And I have had clients come just for training. It's all up to the sitter whether they choose to get licensed to train and then whether they want to offer it as a service with Rover

answered a question Can you shower with your dog?

Sure why not you just have to use a temp of water less than you would for yourself. The temp should be like the bath water for a new born. If it feels hat or your skin gets red it's to hot. give the the shower then let them shake off give them a light pat down with a a good cotton towel Go back in the shower take yours come out and dry both of you the rest of the way off

answered a question Can I use dish soap to wash my dog?

OK let me start with this first the average dog should only be bathed every 4-5 weeks any more will cause dermatitis . My thoughts on most dog shampoos is that they come with either to many unneeded chemicals or dies or perfumes that are not necessary. Yes I can hear all of you what about if my dog is infested with ticks or lice or fleas, Well a couple of cans of tomato juice will kill any live parasites on them because of the vinegar in it. Then dawn cut with water 1:1 mix is OK. or you can also use the classic soap of Madge Palmolive again cut 1:1 water to soap. But for me nothing works better than the plain old white bar of Ivory It is the least likely to cause any kind of skin irritation It is generally recommended to be safe enough for new born babies

Let's be many reasons a dog licks their feet first would be grooming second could be a seasonal allergy for example if you've been playing in the grass and he comes in and starts to lick his feet are allergic to the grass or some other plant that is inside your grass or lawn the next could be an allergy from the food that they're eating after that it can be bacterial or fungal last three needs to be seen if it continues in the feet begin to get swollen or any discharge by a veterinarian the first one is a behavioral issue you can learn to deal with that never ever put socks on their feet and always keep them clean and dry respectfully the teeth## Hea

answered a question Can I use Neosporin on my dog?

Both of these other answers are more or less correct Neosporin is Animal Safe and dog friendly but when I would recommend more than all of that is what we used on the farm all the time for all of our animals and The Merck Manual from Merck veterinary medicine recommends it also and that's called good old-fashioned Bag Balm it would be put on a cow that was milking or a horse that was milking or just general cuts. The one thing that you have to look out and see if the injured area begins to show signs of pus or more redness then discontinue it and take it to your back respectfully the chief

answered a question Why does my dog bark at his food?

Hi good afternoon will the best that I know from my Merck Manual for veterinary medicine and a book I read called Susan's dog and just having been around animals in general if they bark at their food it's because the possibility that they actually like it they enjoy it and that is their way of expressing themselves when a dog barks at the form of an expression whether it's in a angry bark or in a happy bark which they all have the difference of that's how they express themselves all animals make some kind of annoyed so more than likely it's the fact that they're trying to tell you that they're really enjoying that great plate of people that you just gave them respectfully

answered a question Why is my dog shedding?
Wow that is a great question because of the amount of hair loss can be what type of animal we get

First I will keep it simple without getting into a lot of detail.

1) Long hair Short hair Which sheds more? a. Nope I bet you said Long It is really short haired 2) It can also depend on the breed

3) There are environmental conditions to consider a. The animal may be in a nervous state b. It can be a form of dermatitis, insect bite, flea or allergy. 4) Don't forget about 1 of the most contagious reasons (SARCOPTIC MANGE) Canine Scabies 5) The simplest reason the time of the year.

You have the dogs that have a double layer of hair and they will shed the 2nd tighter softer hair twice a year and the courser longer hair once a year. And they can even have a "Blow Coat" that's when it comes off all at once in chunks.

But no matter the reason they all shed. The most important thing is When WHY are they shedding. Remember our children can not verbalize what is going on with them. If you see a strange pattern of shedding or abnormal amount of shedding outside what is the norm. for your baby, Take a moment look for bugs, puss, sores, blood. Shedding can be the sign of a much worse problem

I hope I kept it simple enough. I just want to give you clues you can use at any time to watch for signs of an unhealthy period coming in the life of your pet as well as if you are sitting for a customer's pet you can inform the owner of what you see and save them a ton of money by catching something early

answered a question Can I get tapeworm from my dog?

I believe the the answer above is somewhat misleading and may be only half true

First we need to remember that "Tapeworm" (Dipylidium) is a "ZOONOSES" Zoonotic disease can be anyone of the following ie: virus bacteria fungi or parasite. We must remember that any of these pathogens are commonly transmitted from humans and non humans (mammals) as well as birds reptiles fish etc.

Anyone of use who have regular close contact with animals can be an acceptable host for this parasite. It can easily be transmitted by simply petting the animal the organism is under your nails you have an ordinary scratch on your body that for you is nothing enters through that area. Your washing a pet this pet is a drooler and shakes head the saliva from the animal hits your eye lips or your chewing gum and on the moment you open your mouth to chew a drop of that saliva enters 1 of those areas of opportunity. The Zoonotic disease can be transmitted via mucous membranes open sores or lesions. And if that scenario is a little of a stretch for you all How about your bathing the animal your hands and sleeves are wet You have an itch on your face and you do the classic head lean to arm scratch maneuver. And finally for those of us who groom brush etc. in a closed or unventilated area just taking a breath of what may normally be fresh air can contain plenty of those little "BUGGERS"
My purpose was not to scare anyone with the possible extreme ways to transmit a Zoonotic Disease as for as much to educate ourselves that if we are going to provide the best service available, we need to remember that if we are handling multiple animals we can pass it from 1 of our quests to ourselves to our guest and back and forth not even knowing.

commented question The dog threw up in the friends car after pick up. Should I have paid for the car detail and car wash?

I would not offer to pay for the cleaning and this is why and then I'll tell you what would be acceptable for this case. You have no real way of knowing that the dog ate all the food as well as you don't have any idea the driving conditions I would offer to clean the interior and that is sufficient
