answered a question | Weirdest dog walking request? Grad school can be very tough. I'm grateful that she cares enough about her dog to hire someone to walk him. Even though she's there with him, she's busy so it is completely understandable. It is an odd hour to walk your dog, but you can't blame her for trying someone to do it. It is strange that she'd expect you to come over at 12:30 in the morning without a meet and greet, though. I'd at least like to meet during normal hours first. |
answered a question | How do I deal with dogs that won't stop barking? Personally, I would let the owners know I'm not the best fit for them. If you're determined to keep them as a client, you could try earplugs or ask the owner what methods they're comfortable with you using to train them. |
answered a question | How do I change my dog sitting to cat sitting and add her to my profile? I'm sorry to hear about your dog. You add a cat by going through and adding a dog but select "Cat" as the breed when adding your cat. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but Rover hasn't quite gotten around to giving us the ability to add other pets to our profile. At least they've given us the breed option for cats. |
commented answer | Hi there! So my question: If I am a daytime worker, what is the best way to express to customers I am available on my calendar after say, 4 o'clock for home visits or walks? In addition to this, you can also mention it in your profile so that it's clear. Also make sure to include this information on any advertisements if you post any on say Craigslist or make flyers. |
answered a question | How to stop dog barking at noises when left alone? This may sound a little dumb, but have you considered getting something a little bit louder and more sound obstructing? We have a large air purifier that eliminates a LOT of noise because of all the air it's pushing out. A big fan might help in the same way. Is he crate trained? If he's in a crate with the noise machine or a fan next to him, that might help out a lot since most of the outside noise could be obstructed. |

answered a question | What to charge for a drop in visit for 5 cats? Sorry this is a little late. That price sounds about right. Typically, caring for 5 cats is not as much work as caring for five dogs. I have a house with 3 cats with a repeat client. My duties include scooping three litter boxes each day, splitting two containers of wet food and setting them out on three plates, refilling their water, and putting dry food in four different bowls. I charge $15 per visit for this. Hope this is helpful for the future! |
answered a question | Do you give discount for client who needs multiple drop-in visits per day for a week or more of vacation? I do not provide discounts ever. That's my personal choice, of course. I do this for a living so I really depend on what I earn. I try to keep my rates at an even amount that I think is fair. It's what I'd be willing to pay someone to watch my dog. Part of being a responsible pet owner is making sure you have the resources to make arrangements for your pet(s) when you go on vacation. |
answered a question | Controlling client? Personally, I drop clients like this. I make sure I'm cordial and provide great service so they have no reason to leave a bad review but I let them know I'm no longer available and apologize. People need to realize that when working with animals, a dog will not notice if you're 10 minutes late. Also, working with animals, things happen. It's not an office job where you can clock out. Fido may have an accident just as you're about to walk out. I would say let this client go and find another client that treats you better. |
answered a question | Fair price Dogsitting/housesitting for 6 dogs? Are you going to be staying with the dogs for most of the day in addition to staying at night? If so, I would think probably $50 a day is fair. That's what I would charge, personally. If you're only going to be there mostly around the evening and to stay at night, I'd say $35. The owner would end up paying around a thousand dollars for three weeks. But 21 days of caring for 6 dogs, some with special needs, is a lot of work and you deserve to be compensated accordingly. |
answered a question | Book a stay with different visits per day? You can have them send you a request for each day individually, or you can send a message to Rover asking them to modify the booking. To do this, go into the app and select the booking. Tap the little "i" in the circle at the top right, scroll down and select "Cancel Booking" (this will not cancel the booking), and a page will pop up that says "Modify or cancel". Of course, you'll select "Modify", which is a big green button. Go ahead and send a message that is VERY thorough to make sure there's no confusion. List each date and how many visits per day the client wants. Rover will usually go ahead and modify the booking and send you an email within the next 24 hours. Be aware, there isn't the support yet for Rover to show different visit amounts for each day, so don't pay mind if it still says you're dropping by three times a day. As long as you get the email confirming the modification, you're good to go. |
answered a question | how do I create a custom quote with a special service? You can create a drop-in if it's a repeat client. If not, have them send you a booking for a drop-in. Make sure it is explained the booking will only be 15 minutes. To adjust the rate, make sure you go in and change it BEFORE the booking is confirmed. You can select "Modify", and then change the amount in the "Pet Visit" category on the app. Hope that helps! |
answered a question | Someone requested me before I was able to put my holiday rates in. Now what? It depends. Is the booking pending or confirmed? If it's pending, you can select the booking on the app, tap "Modify", select "Rate Type", and then select "Holiday Rate". If it's already been confirmed, you cannot adjust the rate, nor should you. If you accepted the booking at the standard rate, it's not fair for the client to have to pay more when the standard rate was already accepted and therefore agreed upon. |
answered a question | Incentive items to sitters? Advertisement materials? I completely agree! That would be wonderful. I've joined RoverGO and it's nice that they give you a choice of two welcome kits with different promotional items. Companies like Uber actually give bonuses and something like that every 25 bookings or so would be a GREAT incentive to get out there and promote Rover's services. For now, I'm not sure if you're aware but Rover does have a store where you can buy business cards, shirts, car magnets, etc. |
