answered a question Hello sitters. What should you do if you receive an awful and unfair review?

Here’s a great template I use - it’s a hopeless feeling when owners leave ugly reviews that are always fabricated and in...

answered a question Why are owners allowed to request multiple sitters at once?

The issue isn’t that owners shouldn’t have the option to reach to as many sitters as they want. The issue is that the s...

commented question what is the maximum photo size for profile picture ?

If you attempt upload and it’s not acceptable the system gives an error and correction message. They have a very sophisticated automated system processing photos especially profile- size, quality and content are all instant reviewed by system - I’ve done 15 mb and it’s never rejected

commented question I have a person requesting pricing for hourly care at their home. How much do I charge & how does it get booked?

This is a client you will never be able to make happy. They’ve learned the game and know once you agree you are at their review power mercy. Follow Rovers lead, if that was a smart offering they would have integrated it into the app

commented question Will raising prices effect the bookings that are already in place? If they do, can I still somehow keep the prices the same for the clients that are booked?

Yes it’s actually a great excuse to reach out to all your clients to let them know they get to keep a preferred rate. None of mine have ever been upset, usually happy that I’m in demand enough to increase and it only takes 2 seconds to modify with discount rate- it’s reflected their end looks great

commented question why a puppy fee that I was not aware of?

Rover makes sure all services and sitter prices are listed if one tries to add a last minute fee and you approve by mistake Rover will always have your back and review the sitter and also a swift refund. Also the total is sent to you at the availability request level so you know the total prior2pay

commented question Report M&G no-shows?

For every sitter that is a no show there’s 100 pet parents who do the same - I recommend moving on and not to seek revenge on them. And find the perfect Rover sitter for you. I don’t allow a no call no show to ever book with me, but certainly don’t seek out trying to ruin their reputation

commented question How do I get my Catahoula to stop obsessing over squirrels?

Teach them place like sit with only positive but firm reinforcement and while on the prom do focus exercises like sit, lay, eye contact etc - it takes me with worst case dogs about 2 weeks of 45 min daily sessions to fix, it is possible and is easy, just be persistent and the pack leader

commented question How do I get my Catahoula to stop obsessing over squirrels?

If you can’t afford or don’t want professional training help, you can google teaching your dog a move called place. It’s usually on a raised pet bed and done in a front or back yard where their distractions exist-

commented question When does the charge go through for customers?

Immediately when booked

commented question Are there any real sitters on the app?

But you should be weary of sitters letting you tour and interact with others doggies - because that’s how your baby will be treated as well. And Rover is very clear that they are held harmless for any damage, runaways and medical during meet and greets.

commented question Are there any real sitters on the app?

And ‘suites’ filed with pee and feces. While I don’t allow meet and greets to tromp through my home while booked clients are enjoying a stress free time I do spend as much time out back and answer all questions- they are always welcome to look in the home and come inside at drop and pick up

commented question Are there any real sitters on the app?

I laugh when reading comments that say I was nervous leaving my pet with a stranger but of course it ended up being the best experience ever. The fanciest pet resorts have 1 attendant to 45 dogs, no personal attention and you never get to go in back and tour to see the dark side of stacked crates

commented question Are there any real sitters on the app?

At least you know their intentions and lack of quality in service and let care. Taking your babies to a fancy pet hotel you are greeted in a beautiful lobby and you will never know the people who are taking care of your pets. Kennel attendants and remote cameras not loving homes.

commented answer What is the best way to find an AVAILABLE sitter?

That’s not true, the calendar is real time with exception of pending bookings that can take your spot or hold a sitter who doesn’t know how to keep inbox clean. If they play the unavailability game, they probably had an issue with your fur baby and are trying to be nice - blocking feature gone now

commented answer What is the best way to find an AVAILABLE sitter?

When searching use the filters, select the must haves like full time sitter and certification in sitting and medical intervention like cpr. Also look at their pictures and read their profile , tossing out the wide impersonal request gets a quick response but rarely passes my requirements for stay

commented answer What is the best way to find an AVAILABLE sitter?

Even when your go to sitter on Rover looks booked online- it’s always best to contact them anyway- they can always make room for you if they are professionals- if they are suddenly not available and told you that personally it’s probably a good thing and time to find your forever sitter on Rover

commented answer Should I mark licensed or bonded and insured in the application process if I want to dog sit in another person's home?

Agreed, it’s a smart idea to have your own through PSI or similar- they are specialty pet care insurers- Rover unfortunately doesn’t really have a consistent true insurance coverage. Like many large tech companies Rover is self insured - so each claim is case by case and no set amounts or coverage

commented question How do I deal with owners who take advantage?

The company had Walmarted the in home pet care industry by taking huge fees without any sitter support - actually no expansion of education or sitter vetting process either. Just more ads to recruit by asking if you want holiday cash and play with dogs? Clearly it’s more to owners than that

commented question How do I deal with owners who take advantage?

Us to extend stays, while a dozen other improvements to help pet care professionals aren’t considered. I feel sad when reading some reviews and the pet parent so angry that sitter works full time and leave pets in cages at home. The owners see $45 night boarding plus Rover fees and

commented question How do I deal with owners who take advantage?

Daycare and overnight care, etc is all decided by us! Rover has never written after a bad review or crazy client and said are you okay, what can we do to help. Only when new client doesn’t know rules and offers cash for adding night, etc why you think that feature was added so fast allowing

commented question Booking score down to 50 percent after flakey requests?

And it does affect your ranking in the searches and I think they also wrote in the new terms and conditions consistent low performance on our scores is cause for removal of profile. I told Rover and the kid told me to keep my cell phone near me while sleeping to respond at all hours 1 best to you!

commented question Booking score down to 50 percent after flakey requests?

One of my new Rover clients came from a well known boarding chain and told me a few months ago that they used to spend hours on weekends at the Canine... booking and canceling, request at 3 am, no show meet and greets or stay for hours, offering cash or paying direct torturing sitters

commented question Anyone else got an email with owner claiming damage?

I truly wish Rover had a heart and was a pet care company not a tech company self stated that provides an online place for owners and sitters to meet and facilitate booking and billing, I wish a collective of pet lovers could purchase and make it lucrative for everyone not greed of a few

commented question Anyone else got an email with owner claiming damage?

And emails that will ruin your reputation and offers of huge vouchers to keep them away from you. I knew a guy who went through this and the client told him before Rover did sorry this is going to destroy your only income source and livelihood and reputation.

commented question Anyone else got an email with owner claiming damage?

Offering your head on a platter to lying $seeking clients saying investigation and suspended profile from search results- which in turn has your clients think you flaked. Rover says send requests to 5 sitters when booking, indirectly that sitters come and go. Removed - all your clients get calls

commented question Anyone else got an email with owner claiming damage?

Every sitter has to read the new terms and conditions Rover published - maybe 4 years ago the client would have received a refund or compensation- unless they can prove intentional harm and abandonment of stay Rover won’t drop a dime on them. The ‘investigation’ is to keep clients happy by

commented question Dog Behavior Opposite of Advertised, What do I do?

With a known bad dog and bad pet parent - meet and greets are either stressful and awkward for the dog or on best behavior unless you know how to test their temperament without risk to yours or other Rover guest. 99.9% won’t lie, but it sucks when you fall victim to innocent dog dangerous owners

commented question Dog Behavior Opposite of Advertised, What do I do?

None of that is your fault! Bet she’s been kicked out of all daycares and drops dog to a new Rover sitter every other day. lock the dog in a crate, call the emergency number at Rover, they have to have a new sitter pickup and host the dog as guaranteed in terms to dog owner. M&G futile

commented question What do I do about aggression?

Also call Rover ASAP on the emergency line. Have the dog picked up and sent to another sitter immediately- it’s not a bad mark on you. But if you’re fearful the dog will also become more fearful as they need pack leader, which causes anxiety then attacking is eminent Rover will help you!

commented question Do you as a sitter ask if a client has cameras in their home?

And you will be rewarded by tips and rebooks with more and more trust - and if you don’t want to use that line about doing something embarrassing, there is an app on App Store and or a tool you can get at Home Depot or Lowe’s that detects and identifies all IP cams in the home if curious

commented question Do you as a sitter ask if a client has cameras in their home?

You can always tell if the cameras are security or to watch pets vs trying to spy on sitters and other home professionals that may visit by the tell tale text that will come when you’re running a little late asking how the pets were with the sweetest text. Always a trap so don’t lie,

commented answer What if a pet owner wants to pay me in cash?

They will suspend you first to let your clients panic who don’t have your personal info then without telling you shut you down and ruin you to all your clients offering them refunds of booked stays and vouchers to stay on Rover and away from you. Not worth it if you like Rover

commented answer When you have 2- 30 minute walks booked (2 dogs, same owner), do you walk them one at a time, for a total of 60 minutes, or at the same time?

Depends on how well the dogs walk. If loose leash trained and easy walkers charge $20-$25 for the 2nd. Never let your outbound rate for anything be under $50 per hour. Even that’s a steal, but if regulars and you enjoy this business it’s a good way to get referrals be sure tell it a spec rate 4them

commented answer How can I confront an owner about how she treats her dogs in front of me?

Rover doesn’t care about that unless it’s a liability that can cause payment of damages. Don’t say anything to the crazy client, keep in contact and all smiles, have a friend turn them in to the city animal services or police depending where you live. Folks like that may seek retaliation- be safe!

commented answer Can you transport Dogs when you are a walker?

If Rover ends up investigation of complaints or seeing you offering services they see as potential liability for them, your profile gets removed from views for a while during their alleged investigation to humiliate you and its 50/50 if they remove you and will ruin you to your clients at a whim

commented answer Can you transport Dogs when you are a walker?

I wish Rover would offer it but since they aren’t in the pet care business stated in the t&c documents they mediate settlements vs proactive health/ professional liability coverage. DogVacay used to offer enhanced coverage For sitters not sure when it was ended.

commented answer Can you transport Dogs when you are a walker?

Rover has no set coverage for anything- get your own professional liability insurance from PCI or similar, it’s cheap and covers you and pets in your care and car and homes with real pet specialty insurance - for a million $ umbrella it’s 150 a year -

commented answer What do you do when the Home you're sitting in is less than desirable? (Dirty, Smells, Bugs) But the Pets are wonderful. (disclaimer the pets are safe, in good health and are clean.)?

It’s tough to clean without asking because people like that are sometimes embarrassed by the situation at home like a hoarder, so you might hurt them anyway so tell the truth so they can start looking for another sitter and not thinking you will be their go to since you didn’t mention anything then

commented answer What do you do when the Home you're sitting in is less than desirable? (Dirty, Smells, Bugs) But the Pets are wonderful. (disclaimer the pets are safe, in good health and are clean.)?

I agree, a home visit would have helped so you never became involved. If the animals are loved and people are nice text them and say that but you got freaked out by some critters in the ceiling or vents and ask if you can offer a cleaning service to go before your next stay

commented answer Can you see a response to a negative review in the app?

I’ve had 2 as bad as that and were 100% lies. Rover says even though they will modify outright lies about sitters they decided not to in my case even with full video and text in app proof. They said get more 5 star reviews so they get pushed down . - screen the crazy out by researching clients

commented question Can you see a response to a negative review in the app?

Even with all that Rover won’t remove a bad review so I don’t take the opportunity to apologize I use it to help others be aware of the bad clients and let new clients know the great detail and level care I give. The best reply is truth with no slanderous intention and that you followed Rover rules

commented answer Can you see a response to a negative review in the app?

And that you tried to handle the issue privately but Rover has created this arena to allow for a one time response from the sitter. The only apology to them is sharing the truth where 1000’s visit daily. Be professional and also rate them poorly with detailed info-

commented question Can you see a response to a negative review in the app?

This is one Rover suggestion I don’t follow- I reply in painful detail that is always backed up by requiring all texts go through the app and using security footage at my home or my own footage captured by a Petcube I bring to clients homes along with photos that are geo tagged

commented question How does the additional dog rate work?

If they do and want a break for non stop booking you can throw a freebie in or buy a nice toy and dog cake on their birthday but don’t lower your rates if you know you’re worth it. Your Charity should be offered at shelters and donations not bargain seeking dog owners.

commented question How does the additional dog rate work?

Or partner with a trainer and have a legit team to ask premium rates. I have 4 regular walks daily for 2 clients in my neighborhood at $35 - $50 for 20min to 60 min 2x per day - even did a loose leash clinic for free. Dogs are their family and shouldn’t bargain shop.

commented question How does the additional dog rate work?

In Dallas - 30 min walks for healthy dogs are $35 for up to two dogs who are loose leash trained. If hell on wheels do one at a time, do a full 30 min walk - take great care of them - water, crate, cool down after and it’s a $70 walk for both at 1 hour. Offer leash training too
