commented answer Why does my dog eat frozen poop?

True! There might be a nutrient deficiency in the dogs diet or maybe his body is not absorbing the nutrients he needs from the food quickly enough before it passes. He can smell what he needs in his body from the poop, so naturally... he ingests. I would definitely suggest a vet visit. Play it safe!

answered a question What kinds of human food can I feed my dog?

I would say it’s easier to look up what human foods NOT to give your pup! I used to frequent a message board that was adamant about feeding their dogs raw foods. Maybe something to also look into. One thing I remember from that site is: no cooked chicken bones! It is said to splinter easily causing damage to your dogs throat and/or getting stuck and possibly choking your dog or worse.

answered a question What to do if new dog is always in her crate?

I am sure she is grateful to you for giving her a loving home! I agree with everyone, things are new for her... maybe “new” hasn’t always been good for her so she’s just going through a feeling out process. Her crate is definitely her safe place as far as I can tell from your post so please don’t shut her out of it. This can cause anxiety and in turn activate other behaviors that might not be ideal for a pet. You can try rewarding her with praise and a treat when she comes to you, reward her throughout her stay outside of the crate to create a safe and positive environment for her. She seems to have taken a liking to you so another thing you can do is just let her be herself, give her space and even try to ignore her a bit at times. She might come to you looking for attention and that’s ok! She should venture out on her own time and accord and you will see she will soon roam around with a little less weight on her shoulders. I also want to add that some dogs’ personalities are just set (I’m sure this can be curbed quite a bit with professional help). Some of them are jumpy or extra cautious to the point where it seems they can’t trust anybody! Maybe it’s from the way they’ve lived in the past or it might just be innate behavior, but I’ve met dogs that no matter how long you’ve known them or how well you treat them they just aren’t the cuddly type and would much rather find a corner or somewhere off to the side (or a crate*) to spend their time than to have anything to do with their owners. They will, of course, occasionally go and check on you and look for some love and affection but for the most part are complete loners and are always watching their back! Lol if you’ve never come across a dog like this it’s almost hard to imagine!! Either way, once there’s a bond one shares with a dog it really is unbreakable and I’m sure your relationship will be so rewarding for both of you!

answered a question Why did my dog act weird around medical marijuana?

No expert analysis here but it has been my experience that, just as with humans, all dogs (animals?) have their likes and dislikes. I’ve also noticed most dogs like pungent or odd odors. Seems like it calls to them. I don’t know if “like” is the correct word... I think it just stands out to them and they just have to get another whiff to find out more about it. I have also been in situations where a dog seems to obviously “like” marijuana while others will refuse to be in the same space with the stuff whether they’ve previously had contact with it or not. This doesn’t completely explain away your experience at all as I’m sure the reality of it is a mixture of everything the previous posters mentioned, but just thought I’d throw that in. Regardless of the truth, you shouldn’t worry too much about it. As long as your pup is healthy and not getting into anything you don’t want him to have he should be fine. Hopefully no one would do something like that to someone else’s pet, but to be honest I think it sounds more like your doggy was just being a curious pup! Also again, I’m no expert but just to maybe help put your mind at ease: I don’t think marijuana would have any long term effects on his behavior or mind in the unfortunate event that he was given some without your knowing or consent. Rest assured; he won’t be paw-ning your things to get his weed fix anytime soon!
