answered a question What is the ratio of problem dogs you have had?

I have had very good luck with dogs - only one nightmare pair (peed all over despite constant potty breaks, then attacked me when I tried to take them outside). I have 6 dogs staying in my home right now + my 3 and everyone is getting along and playing. It takes some good introductions on neutral territory but as long as no one is able to display dominant behavior or marking I have good luck. It sounds like I'm an exception though!

I require every dog be kenneled at night and when I am not home, no exceptions. I have had my door scratched, carpet pulled up, etc and it is NOT WORTH IT.

I do have some dogs that can't go to normal kennels - for example one hurt himself so badly when he was kenneled he had to go to the hospital, long before I had him. He was found tied to a tree and has some emotional issues. His owner knows I have to have a completely open schedule with no outside Rover walks and he is a special case.

answered a question Why do they pee in the house?

Dogs pee for many reasons. Normally the least of which is that they have to go. I try to let my Rover tenants out every 30 minutes - 1 hour when they first arrive and offer lots of praise when they go. Normally, however, thats not the case and it's a dominance or anxiety issue. The dog is marking with their smell to better establish their place in the home, which is not desirable. If that happens I usually try to have a playpen (like a pack and play for kids) that they can play in with other dogs. We have a 15 foot long metal gate that can be molded to any shape. That way they are always where I can see them and can't run off and pee in another corner. It also helps when I have many many dogs and I want to separate the shy ones from the more playful ones.

I find that I have better luck keeping them on tile as it's easy to get the potty smell out of. We have carpet in our bedroom and will occasionally let our Rover guests sleep in their with us - but there is one spot a dog peed on months ago that will occasionally get "tagged" or "marked" again. I hope that helps answer your question!

answered a question Why doesn't Rover let Sitters share info about dogs?

I always assume "the worst" when it comes to housebreaking or separation anxiety. I now have 6 dogs (plus my 3) at my home and I tell the owner they must be properly kennel trained for their safety at night and in the rare times I have to leave. I agree with the private shared reviews! I had a few dogs a couple of months ago that were adults, probably 6 or 8, that marked all over my house. I ended up having to pen them off in a smaller playpen with other like size dogs, they tried to attack me when I reprimanded them for peeing and tried to usher them outside. It's hard because I feel like if I was honest with the owner they would think I'm not letting their dogs out enough, when in reality I'm letting them out every 30 minutes during their first day here. And the "reprimanding" was a sharp "NO", then ushering them to the back door.

I feel like you as a customer are rated on Uber or Lyft, so why is Rover any different? Luckily I feel like most small damages created by my tenants are typically paid by the owner. Example - your dog ate my pillow, comforter, scratched my door and I need paint...

One thing I will 100% not tolerate are dangerous dogs. I have a big black mouth cur/pit mix and he is very well behaved. if your dog consistently demonstrated dominate or aggressive behavior I immediately call Rover and let them know what's going on.

asked a question Barkbox Discount?

I would love it if Rover could set up a Barkbox whosesale account - I think it would be hugely popular. i know that I go through a ton of toys when I have guests, as it seems Rover dogs always eat the toys instead of chew on them ;) The average subscription rate is $20 a month (or $25 for shorter contracts), but drops quite a bit with wholesale. I wonder if there would be a way to arrange this? I emailed Rover help directly and they just set it doesn't exist at this time.
