answered a question Why does my dog scratch her ears all the time?

Hello, I am a sitter for rover.com, I owned many dogs over the years, one in particular was a border collie mix, and she had to have drops constantly in her ears as they would get dry and itch. If you keep your dog out a lot they do also suffer from dust and sand, good old dirt in their ears. The best idea is to call the vets office and ask them, many will advise you on the phone if you have a good relationship with your vet. There are a few pet blogs out there online that answer questions as well.

commented answer does anyone charge for the meet and greets?

Hello, no I do not charge, it is part of the interview, you can also decide if you want to do the job as well as they decide if they like you and their dogs like you. You can write off the mileage as part of your business expenses.

answered a question Charge for a drop in visit?

I agree yes, charge for the drop in, and look at the other sitters that do drop ins, it is good for the animals to see people, they could completely tear up the house if they get anxious because they are left alone too long.

answered a question Extended stay discounts?

I constantly have extended stays, of over one week to 3 weeks. I have found that more than 2 weeks is tiring. And as one of the sitters mentioned, there could be problems for more than 2 weeks. I have sat for 2 weeks for 2 dogs, on holidays and still charged 25.00 per day per dog. Only because it was a holiday. I have been giving a discount for a longer stay, but I am thinking about raising it back to the regular price.

When I sit for animals through Rover, I usually do not go anywhere unless to the grocery store, I stay there with the animals the entire time. I have checked with vet offices in my area and they charge at least 25.00 per animal and they also charger per weight of the animal, which i do not do. I charge a flat fee per animal.

I constantly have clients that think that 25.00 per dog per day is expensive, I always let them know that not only are we sitting for their animal, and taking care of their every need, we are playing with them, walking them sometimes, caring for them like they were our dogs, a vets office throws them in a cage and that is that, usually dogs are barking as well that are left there. It is frightening for animals they do not know if they will come back for them. If they are in their own home, it is comfortable. Sometimes they change their minds and it is quite ok.

answered a question Charging for walking multiple dogs?

I charge 15.00 to walk one dog, less if they are small, more if they are very large. Labs can be out of control on walks probably a good idea to walk one at a time, I owned a lab and she would walk me rather than I walk her, she weighed 80 lbs.

commented answer Hi, Does anyone have a suggestion for an effective promo code?

Hi Lisa, glad I could help, when in doubt though you can contact Rover. They are so helpful.

commented answer Why are some owners so rude to not answer after a meet and greet which I think went very well?

I agree as a sitter, I realize people decide who they like, it is a process. I never worry about it, there are lots of jobs that happen for sitters on Rover, if one doesn't work the next one might be a perfect match.

answered a question How to know if you can trust a client?

Hello, I have had a lot of clients that do not have profiles filled out. I think that is normal, some folks worry about online crime, others reading their information. A client told me that recently. I let her know she could leave her business address if she did not want to leave her home address on the Rover site. I called Rover and asked for permission to let the client leave a business address. I use Rover for all my important decisions, I do not want to give out incorrect information as a sitter. However, their address needs to be somewhere if you carry insurance and you are bonded with Rover, which I am, they need to know where you will be sitting the animal/s.

I have not done boarding, I go to their homes, and I get their addresses ahead of time and I drive to their locations before I do the meet and greet. I look at the area for the purpose of safety. I think it is valuable to know where the location is before hand.

On the request for appointments there is place where you can charge $$ if they cancel and do not give you enough time. I put mine as flexible because people that usually hire Rover sitters have businesses or are retired, travel, etc. and things always come up and I want to be as flexible as I can.

answered a question How do I cancel the house sitting date ?

I would always give the owners the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they had an emergency and forgot about the sitter visiting. Things do come up. I always confirm before I drive over to the owners home, by phone and by emali at least a day before or that day, as early as I can.

I would then call Rover and ask for advice. I use Rover a lot and the representatives are always so helpful.

answered a question does the dog owner provide the food for the sitter?

I am a sitter however I do not do boarding, if I did do boarding, yes, I would recommend the owner of the dog, bring the dog's food.

As mentioned dogs can be allergic just like humans to foods, the owner usually is aware of allergies, or foods that their dogs love to eat and will eat. Snacks should also be purchased and brought along with the owner and their dog.

I usually bring biscuits when I first meet new dogs at the owners homes, but I always ask the owners before I give a dog a snack i have purchased.

I think it is a good idea to bring along a favorite blanket or bedding that their dogs sleeps on, so they feel comfortable while mom and dad are away. Always ask the sitters about bedding.

answered a question Why does my dog clean me?

I think dogs lick humans because they taste salt on your skin from sweating or lotions. They may view you as one their own family members and they are being affectionate.

commented question Hi, Does anyone have a suggestion for an effective promo code?

Hello, I am a sitter and I use a promo code on my card and a couple of clients have used it so far. I wanted to use something catchy. My code is ASK2020, they get a $20.00 discount for their first sitting, I don't pay it, Rover does. 2020 is easy to remember because of the TV program.
