How to get rid of dog blackheads?

My dog gets blackheads on her belly and under her arms. I'm not going to use human acne medication on her, but does anyone have any tips on what might help clear this up?

Hi Sharon- I did some searching - not a lot on the subject - and found an article on PetMD.co. - petmeds.com/news/pet-meds/curbing-acne-breakouts-in-your-dogs/

The Reader's Digest version says that usually puppies to 1 yr old can have that problem but other skin problems can still develop at any age. It can be caused from dry skin caused by allergies. Allergies can develop after being exposed to a food, environmental substance. Have you changed your food lately? What shampoo/conditioner do you or your groomer use? The article advises to check with your vet. I hope this helps. Kathleen D.

Typically you see black heads on the dogs with no hair (Chinese crested). You should try washing your dog while wearing an exfoliating glove.

Dogs go not get blackheads as often as it happens in people. There may be doggy acne but it seems like it's more likely to take place in the chin areas. In other areas, the formation of what looks like comedones may be due to bacterial infections, excess oil production in the skin etc. Best to see the vet for diagnosis. It looks like based on the link that vets may prescribe benzyl perox. based shampoos. https://dogshealthproblems.com/dog-blackheads/ (https://dogshealthproblems.com/dog-bl...)
