Can bulldogs live in hot weather?

Does anyone in Arizona have an English Bulldog? Have you ever had any problems?

Comments

We have an English Bulldog in Florida. The hardest part is getting through our really hot summers and keeping him active. He can't be in the heat for long. It's doable, but you have to be really careful and keep AC running. We're moving up north & are excited about the side benefit of cool weather.

I live in Mesa, AZ and our neighbor has an Old English Bulldog. He is super sweet and is outside most of the time. During the summer and extreme heat of the day he is inside. They have even bred him and sold the puppies. I think their guideline is if It it is to hot for them to be outside then he is inside. Hope this helps. Kathleen D.

Rover has a great article on keeping dogs cool and they explicitly mention bulldogs and other short-nosed breeds. I think you will need to take additional precautions to make sure a bulldog stays safe in that kind of heat, but it's ultimately absolutely possible.
