Hello I want my deductible for the vet visits, and the special food money, and the dog sitting money back because my dog apparently ate stones while being cared for and needed vet treatment. how do I get my expenses covered ?

Dog was watched by a sitter for a three days and nights, and was watched the previous year by the same sitter without incident. This year the dog had bloody diarrhea and stones in poop and gI tract starting after one normal poop at 3:30pm. At 4:30 pm she had mucous stool with stones ( I checked it).
The sitter said in a text - "don't focus on us". Well the sitter had the dog, unless he farmed it out somewhere else, who else do you focus on? We didn't have her for three full days. She was fine when she went and had internal injuries from stones after being there for Three nights. She had never had any problems like this before. She was sick for about one week and had to go to the vet and received X-rays which showed "debris" in her GI tract. She passed more stones and is ok now.

We didn't see the use of going "he said, she said" with the sitter. Its an unfortunate incident which obviously occurred during his watch, and obviously we would not be able to use that sitter again, but he says in a text that he has had only positive feed back since coming to New York, and since 1967 at his previous location. I don't dispute that, but this happened. We want reimbursement for our expenses: the deductible $250, special food ($94), and the sitting fees ($99.90). Thats the minimum right thing to do. We have not left bad reviews on the site, or any other site or social media sites. We wish to keep this private, receive our expenses, and leave up to rover the incident and its investigation so it can not happen again. "Don't focus on us" is not an acceptable solution.

I agree with you, "Don’t focus on us" is nowhere near appropriate! I am sorry you and your pet are going through this. However, I am not sure I would blame the Pet Sitter in this situation. Being that your pet does not have a history of eating random things, it is impossible to predict that your dog would eat a rock. As odd as that may sound, some pets will eat the most random items ie: socks, rocks, underwear, rags, ect.

I don't think that sitter was negligent in not noticing your pet ate some rocks. It does normally take a few days before the pet would start showing symptoms. It is quite possible your Pet did not start showing signs until after you picked him up from the Sitters.

Had your pet had a history of eating rocks and this was something mentioned prior to the stay. Had you and the Sitter talked about making sure your pet is not able to pick up rocks, or that he has a history of eating random items. (then in that case yes, the sitter would be negligent. ) But it does not sound like that is the situation here.

Now, the response the sitter gave you was highly inappropriate. The sitter should have been more professional in handling your concerns. His response was snarky and rude. He may have had only positive reviews in the past, but it does not change what happened to your pet. Because of his snarky attitude with handling this situation, I personally would write a review. Not for your pet eating stones (honestly, I don't think he was at fault for that.) but for how he responded to your concerns. He should have been compassionate, caring, and concerned that this happened on his watch.

Best of luck, hope your dog continues to do well!

The best way to recoup your expenses is to contact Rover directly at:[Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]. It’s great that you already texted the sitter to let them know what happened. Rover will require a good amount of documentation, from you, the sitter, and the veterinarian, as well as receipts/ invoices. Rover would determine reimbursement after complete review.
