My puppy is new and he's not eating at all. How do I cheer him up?

My friend gave me a dog and he's quite timid. I'm worried that he'll die of hunger.

You can add things like peanut butter, pumpkin, or chicken broth to their food to try and promote eating! Your pup is probably still nervous and getting used to it's new environment. This isn't uncommon, but if it continues for a long period of time you may want to go to the vet to see if there's any underlying health issues. Try to make sure your pup is comfortable in your home and getting lots of love!

Good luck!

You can make bone broth to cook plain chicken breast for your puppy. But first, you have to know why your dog is behaving like this. You should ask your friend how your puppy was before coming to you. Maybe your puppy is missing its previous owner. Some puppy gets depressed and losses his appetite. Other than this you can take your puppy to vet to make sure he is healthy.

You can try something yummy like Chicken Breast. Something really plain no seasoning, no salt, no pepper, no skin. just plan chicken breast boiled.(and No, not Costco Chicken- too much salt and seasonings). At least to try and see if you could get him to eat something? But either way he needs to be seen by your Vet.

(If he is not eating, even more of a reason he needs to be seen today by your local Veterinarian. But lets say he does eat the chicken breast. You still want to take him in to make sure he his healthy. Get him vaccinated, dewormed, ect. )

Puppies are typically Happy and playful. Yes, they can be a little timid depending on their breed, how old they are, where they came from (I know you said you got from a friend), where did the previous owners get him from? (craigslist? breeder? shelter?,ect. ?) There are several things that would take into play on why your puppy is not eating but first, The most important thing you need to do is make sure the puppy is healthy!

Is the puppy current on his vaccines?

Does he have Parvo, Distemper, or any other viruses?

Has he been dewormed? (If not he should be)

Is the puppy drinking water? Any vomiting? Diarrhea? Coughing? Sneezing? All of these questions the Veterinarian would be able to help you figure out why your puppy is not eating. Please do take him in to the Vet today!

Best of Luck!
