Skype Meet & Greet for Last Minute Request?

A new client is booking with me due to their other sitters dog not getting along with their new puppy. They are previous Rover users for their other dogs - I confirmed they used it once a few years ago. Currently they are extremely busy with wedding planning and their dog is set to come on Saturday. I am happy to sit for them, but we are coordinating schedules for meet & greet, and our times for the next few days before the booking starts are a little conflicting.

I was thinking of either having the meet and greet at my house (which I've done before), although I need to make sure they are ok with that, or suggesting a skype meeting (not something I've done before, but I want to make things flexible for my clients). A third option would be doing the meet and greet the day of, although I do not do that often. I understand some people have unforseen situations come up, and they could not avoid last minute booking requests, such as their previous plans not working out.

Thoughts? Would a skype appointment be too impersonal? I would only want to use this option for special circumstances.

Thank you!

1.No to MnG day of.. You will feel pressured to accept a dog you might otherwise not keep because the owner had no more time to find another sitter. 2. No to Skype because you can't accurately gauge the other dog as to how they'll fit in your household.

To me anyway in-person MnG's are a vital part of the boarding process, done so that owner/sitters are well matched.

Meet& Greet at your home sounds like the best plan. If you have to do the m&g day of, you could let them know you'll leave request as pending and when they arrive, if it goes well, you can both book it then right then. You could also tell them, if it's not a match, they may want to have a second option lined up. I've done that and been glad I handled it that way because the other dog was not a match for my dog and being upfront saved everyone from an unpleasant experience. Keep in mind that they already disclosed their puppy isn't matched to their other sitter's dog. Your dog may or may not feel/react the same way about having that puppy stay over.

I wouldn't recommend Skype. Your profile shows you have a dog, kitten, in addition to smaller caged pets. If your dog and kitten are going to be sharing the same space in your home, wouldn't you want to introduce your dog, and maybe your kitten, to their puppy to ensure all could get along? Your pets can't get to know each other over Skype and you can't get to know the puppy that way either, Skype only seems like an option to someone who didn't have pets or was going to the client's home without their pets, and even then you're taking some considerable risks of forgoing the m&g.

I personally would never do a sitting or boarding stay without a meet. There's just too much risk even if you don't have other dogs you have their dog and your property to worry about. Skype might give you a good idea about the owner but it won't tell you behavioral stuff you NEED to know about the dog.

It sucks that this owner wasn't able to retain a good sitter (that's not on them). However, they really need to reach out to Rover and make it a priority to schedule a meet even with only one day left.

I am in the middle of a similar situation, but it's for watching a dog, not bringing them into my home. There is no option for us to meet until day-of, unless we skype, so i have just suggested that. My concern is: will i get in trouble with Rover? I hope not, but i was flagged once for something else so i'm super cautious. The folks are staying in a hotel and actually we won't be in the same city until then. They don't even want me overnight, just for a cluster of hours so they can go to a show. I feel their profile is legitimate and I don't feel anything feels off or unsafe.

Does anyone know: does skype count as going off of Rover? Will i get in trouble? I don't know where within Rover to ask.
