Is there a way to filter by distance. I put that I can travel 20 miles ( I just changed it to 15) away from my house, but got a request from 40 miles away?
I have experienced similar situations regarding dates I am available and what kinds of dogs I will accept as guests. If a prospective client searches only on zip code without reading your profile they may still send a request. You are always welcome to politely decline, telling them why and quickly archiving the request.
Unfortunately, not all prospective clients read all the way through our profiles, so you will get requests that don't meet your criteria. As Carmen said, just send them a 'decline' message (I usually use the standard message then edit it for specifics). Be sure and archive the request so that you will show up again in searches.
