How to stop my dog from peeing in the house at night?

I have a small terrier mix. When I first got him he was in the process of being paper trained but I noticed he wasn’t really making progress with me. I started training him outside and that seemed to motivate him more because he loves being outside! However about 8 months later I started a new job and moved which makes it harder to take him outside.

Because of my work schedule he usually spends most of the day in his crate with no accidents. When I’m home he has free roam of the house. Typically he doesn’t have any accidents as long as I’m monitering him. The moment I leave him alone he pees in the house. This is easier to manage since I make sure to keep my eye on him and if I can’t I put him in his crate. However, more often than not, he will pee in the middle of the night. I don’t want to crate him at night since I already feel guilty about crating him for most of the day. Is there anything I can do to prevent the peeing?

I would highly recommend you take the dog outside immediately before bedtime and then crate the dog overnight. Most dogs actually like a crating environment so don't feel guilty about crating. Over time your dog will get used to the routine and adapt. Best of luck
