Rover House Sitters Questions - Bringing their Pets While House Sitting & Time Spent in Client's Home?

I am new to Rover and have made an inquiry for a sitter to come to my home for a Friday through a Monday this summer and have a couple of questions please.

I know and understand many Rover sitters/walkers of course have their own dogs.

As a Rover sitter, do you disclose somewhere in your profile that you bring your dog(s) to a clients house while house sitting? I see many profiles say they have a fenced in yard, which is great for doggy parents who opt to board their dog/puppy for an overnight stay. I haven't found anything regarding a Rover sitter who has their own pet(s) and what they do with their pets when they are house sitting. I can assume the sitter lives with someone and leaves their own pet(s) at home for an overnight stay but I don't want to assume that. Is this something you find out at a M&G? I have a dog who gets along very well with other dogs but it's only been in short 2-4 hours at a time. He's never had another dog stay overnight.

My second question is how much time do you stay at the client's house? The entire time like it's your own home and you stay the night or do you pop in every couple of hours and not stay the night?

Thank you for your honest answer! :)

Hi Monica,

All good questions and definitely things you should be asking before booking. First off, every sitter on Rover is independent and can set his/her own rates and service hours. If you search on this board, you'll find numerous questions about how long house sitting is. Is it just overnight (8 pm - 8 am, for example), 24 hours, come and go throughout the day, etc. Lots of variations. As a rule, if the house sitting rate is high (and this varies by location), then the sitter is likely going to be at your home full time or nearly so. The best thing to do is ask the sitter how long he/she will be at the home, how many walks/potty breaks they'll provide, etc.

Rover's Help topic states that house sitting is for 24 hours and includes all necessary pet care. The sitter may have other commitments, like walking other clients or doing drop-in visits. However, the sitter should be spending a majority of the ti=me in your home, which one should expect from a premium (higher-priced) service.

As for a sitter's pet(s), if they want to bring into your home--which is not advisable for insurance reasons as well as compatibility--they should be asking for your express permission. I like that you are being proactive. You have to agree to the sitter bringing anyone which includes a friend or a pet into your home.

Good luck!
