Will our first dog return to 'normal' after he gets used to our new second dog?

asked 2018-02-23 07:30:21 -0500

Our well adjusted 2.5 year old Pit Bull Terrier gets along great with our new slightly older / bigger Pit Bull. However, he seems angry at the family. It's only been 2 days since we brought the new pet home and we figure that despite the fact that the first dog gets along great with him, he may still be angry with us for having a second dog. He literally seems to ignore us most of the time. Is there anything we can do to help him with this adjustment and can we expect our old boy to return to 'normal' after he gets used to the idea?

Thanks!

It's so hard to predict. The dynamic really changes sometimes with a second dog. I would recommend spending some time with both dogs individually and together. If nothing else it may help you get specific about how he's behaving differently.

Bringing a new dog into your home will take the entire family sometime for an adjustment to happen. Your original dog may never revert to his prior behavior with the new dynamics of the pack, but he may.
