What does it mean "How many years do you have caring for dogs"? Does that mean dog sitting or just caring in general, like for your own dog?

When setting up your profile, it asks "How many years do you have caring for dogs"....does this mean in general, like your own dog or more specifically house/dog sitting?

It means in general. Caring for your own dog counts.

Thank you! That's what I kinda took it as, but a prospective customer asked and assumed it meant I had X years actually house/pet sitting.

But it shouldn't. Drives me crazy when you see a 20 something say they have 20 years experience

I think of it as in being the primary caregiver for a dog, so not just growing up with them, but being their main owner. I also include time I spent volunteering at a shelter because I couldn't have dogs of my own.

Yes, that's a v.g. definition. If Rover had wanted years *employed* dog sitting or walking, they would have stated that.

Yes, I agree with Karen. They ask for experience, not professional experience and the profile can be used to elaborate on if that's personal or professional experience.
