What to make the cat rates?

I'm new to Rover, and I've been a little confused about the rates for taking care of cats? I believe I saw another question similar to this one and the general consensus was to charge the same for a drop-in visit or stay for cats as you would for dogs, which sounds fine to me, but I guess my confusion is in the specifics: what if the owner has a cat and a dog, or they have more than one cat? If they have a cat and a dog and they ask me to house sit and take care of both of them, would they be charged double? And I know there's an option for additional dogs, but there isn't one for additional cats, so if someone had two cats they wanted me to check on, then wouldn't they pay more than someone with two dogs? Both of those don't seem right to me-I mean, I love cats and I'd like to be paid for my work, but cats just really don't require as much attention as dogs. I don't want to charge more for two cats than for two dogs, and if I'm already going to do a visit or stay where there is a dog and a cat, I feel like the rate for the cat should be the same as the additional dog rate. Is my understanding incorrect? Am I thinking too much about cats when Rover is primarily for dogs?

Hi, Victoria.

Basically, the way you choose to charge is entirely up to you. So sitters differ on how they charge for things. As long as your prices are clearly listed in your profile or you are transparent about pricing at the M&G, it shouldn't be an issue.

Personally, I do the following:

Drop ins for one cat are the same as one dog ($10/30 min visit) Additional cats are are charged at the rate as "additional dogs" for drop-ins: ($5/cat per visit). If the booking is for drop-ins and they have one dog, and one cat: ($10 (first pet) + $5 (second pet)...and so on)

In these instances, you may have to go in and manually adjust pricing.

House sitting: -$35 for one pet (regardless of cat or dog) -$15 for each additional dog -$10 for first cat (if there is a dog on the booking) -$5 for each cat after the first cat

Examples: -Cat only: I charge the same rate as one dog ($35/night) -Cat with dog: ($35/night (first dog) + $10/night (cat care)) -2 cats with two dogs: ($35/night + $15/night (2nd dog) + $10 (first cat) + $5 (second cat))

Do you have the owner make a cat profile when they are asking you to just feed their cat and clean the litter box during your home sitting with their dog? or do you just adjust the pricing when they book just their dog for a home sitting?

For drop in visits for one cat only, I charge the same as drop in visit for a dog, $15. For multiple cats, no dogs, I charge $5 for each additional cat. For drop ins and house sitting with both dogs and cats, I just charge $5/cat for the cat care. I do not board cats.

I know this post is old, but hopefully someone will see my comment/question and respond to it. To the person who answered the original question or to anyone who would care to respond— What would be your reason(s) for not boarding cats?

If you're asking why the owner wouldn't just board the cats: it can be traumatic for the cat. Dogs leave their homes daily for walks & as a result, adapt easier to boarding. Cats usually stay inside the one home they know; they often get highly stressed out when they board.
